If the bar took your fake ID without calling the police on the spot, you have nothing to worry about it, assuming this wasn't like an on-campus bar, etc.
15 some years ago, there was a new law implemented in Virginia. If you were caught trying to buy booze with a fake ID, the cops were charging identity theft and some other serious charges.
It depends on the scenario, but you'd already know if you're arrested.
As many posters have mentioned, there are lots of places that don't really care about it except to the extent they don't want to get in trouble. Usually, if you get popped for fake id outside of busy areas/districts in your town and outside of busy nights (weekends), then it's not very practical for them to arrest you on that. They'd have to find a way to keep you there while they summon the police.
On the other hand, if the police are already there because it's a busy night/busy area, then they'll just flag a cop and get them over. If you do get arrested, the charge(s) can be misdemeanor or felony. A friend worked at a dmv and literally printed off an id from the state for me (only things that weren't legit were age and DL #). I got arrested with this one time because of an ex-gf who was friends w/ a bouncer and literally got the cops over to the door when she saw me walking in. Felony and even misdemeanor charges are no joke though. You can't work in certain white collar crime jobs because of a conviction of a fraudulent nature. So I'd be especially careful if you are interested in going into banking or something like that.
If you do get arrested, don't panic. Just go to jail for a night. They will likely release you on a personal recognizance bond. Then hire a lawyer who does this stuff all the time. They'll enter a guilty plea w/ the judges in exchange for charges being lowered + usually have it so that if you complete some type of probation for >1 year and do some community service you can get the charges completely expunged from your record.
You put it well. They’re not going to show up to your house (well, your dorm) over a fake ID if you weren’t arrested then and there. Consider yourself lucky that they just took it. And once again, don’t resist - let them take it and nothing will happen.
Fake ID was confiscated by the bar today before I bought anything. I didn't resist and just let them take it and they told me (like many others before) they'll just put it in a box downstairs. Could I face any charges (Indiana)?
You could, but are unlikely to face charges.
The bar doesn't want to call the cops because nobody out drinking wants the cops to show up and they want you to come back when you are 21. Having future patrons get arrested isn't a great business strategy. Plus, everyone working there is probably an alcoholic, so they understand; they just can't serve you because of their own personal liability (to self and business).

You won't get in any trouble. Bars just take it and some bouncers will even let you by it back for a fee. It's pretty normal to have it confiscated or get rejected, I've had it happen and so have my teammates. It's almost a rite of passage to run into trouble with your fake but don't worry about it. Like a few others have said, as long as you don't do anything stupid once it's taken, you're fine
Spoke with a friend of a friend who works there. I was told that their downstairs break room has a few boxes of fakes that they destroy after a bit. Especially since I didn't make a scene or mouth off to them and they didn't even mention calling the cops (as I left without a challenge or delay), he told me that nothing will happen. Typically, I heard that if you don't make a scene bars prefer scaring you more than arresting you; cops in our city also have more to deal with than someone with a fake

A good act does not wash out the bad, nor a bad act the good
Your fake ID has your real name on it? Why would you do that?
A few of my friends got fakes and we were told (by our underage alcoholic friend) that if you have a fake name you can get charged with impersonation, which had worse punishments than if you just had the wrong birthday. This was for AL though and I never verified it because I didn't get one.

How are they going to press charges? Do they even know your real name?
But even if you used your own real name, you won't be facing any charges.
Here's my random ID story. When we were living in Flagstaff in 2022, we went to a bar with a college kid. He was underage and presented them a real id but one that wasn't him. They confiscated it. He went home.
Before the night was over, I insisted they had made a mistake and told him we needed the ID back. They gave it to me. The kid couldn't believe it when I next saw him and handed him his id back.
Charges related to underage drinking can result in a criminal record that affects education and employment opportunities. Hiring a skilled attorney is vital.

What you'll eventually learn about older adults is that most DGAF and want to do as little work as possible. Only real a-holes will do anything. So some bar owner would have to be so motivated to go to the cops and find a cop who actually does any work, and get that cop to file a report that they'd have to fill out, because some idiot kid tried to get into a bar. There's zero chance this comes back to you, unless you go back to that bar. And even then, they'll just tell you to GTFO. When you're young is when you can do dumb sh!t and not worry. And get out of Indiana. It's a hole. Really, there aren't many places worse.
1. I see why outside online referred to LRC as "the site’s message boards can read like the online id of high-mileage frat bros" - the site cofounder encouraged fake ID usage lol
2. Your statement is correct: he didn't make a fight; he just left. No bar owner or bartender except if there's a personal vendetta will try to punish you especially since you complied.
3. Carmel is nice - a generic suburb of Indy that's upper-middle class. The rest is either farmland, hood, or an arctic wasteland.
