CU Boulder full ride

CU and all DIs have max of 12.6 equivalent scholarships to give for men. They almost certainly have the full amount available.

But, as others have said, that money is going to be allocated based on Conference and National standing. Wetmore only recruits Americans, and it is tough for an American males to come out of HS and compete for significant points at Pac 12 and the National level.

My guess would be more guys earn a full or large scholarships while at CU, then come in on fulls.

Also, in equivalency sports, you can stack academic and athletic aid. It is possible for someone to be on a full when adding athletics scholarship and other school scholarships together (may be the case for someone who says they are on a full).

Because women have more scholarships available, and the talent differentiators are more pronounced, it is way more common to see women pull a full ride out of HS at a Power 5, than it is for men.

Plenty of track men (distance included) are on full or very large scholarships around the NCAA. But, due to the nature of equivalency, a lot of very good men are on surprisingly small scholarships as well (especially at deep distance programs and national XC powers).

A lot of people speaking truth on this thread! Be prepared for those down votes from kids and track parents that just had their Buff dreams deflated.

I know someone that was a D1 NCAA TF individual national champion. This person rejected appearance fees and WC prize money in order to maintain eligibility.

The school was still not coughing up a full-ride.

Only after threats of turning pro did the school offer up a full-ride.

It was a while ago so things may have changed.

This could very well be at a program like Arkansas or Florida where there may be more than 10 guys on the squad who can score at Nationals, on any given year.

On the flip side there are also full ride guys at well funded G5s and mid majors. Athletes who may not even make the Regional meet or win a conference event. But the coaches are content if they pull in 8-12 points at Conference in a double or triple effort.

For example, a 4th place and 5th place finish, over two events, at conference is 9 points. In the MWC, AAC, Sun Belt or CUSA a guy at that level may not have hit a first round mark.

But that is a very valuable athlete for a mid major program, that is focused on Conference results, in a league with 10+ teams where points are though to get.

OK, sounds like fulls are rare. Sounds like pretty common to get nothing coming in and then once proven you can then pick up something. What is common for partials though? Is it more like we'll just do books or just do tuition or do they go by various percentages 25%, 50%, 75% etc?

I also wonder is there any game to it? If your kid is recruited by multiple schools, is it common for the schools to offer nothing at first and then pick it up if you start leaning towards another school, especially one offering you something?

My DIII school on the east coast has laundry service too...

Look up the conference on TFRRS and you have your answer. Distance fans just can't seem to grasp the concept of 12.6 spread across 55 athletes. A 4:10 high school will likely never score a point unless he becomes a 3:58 guy. Any scholarship is a waste.

And as others have said, need based and academic aid come first which makes it very unlikely to ever need a full ride.

There is a game to it, again every school is different. I worked at a few universities each with their own challenges.

At one for example (big state school) you would not know academic aid until March. Imagine waiting until spring to find out you missed the Presidential package and it is going to cost 15k more than expected. Also once the academic funding was gone it was gone, first come first serve system.

My brother ran ACC's as a transfer. Started on books, within a year everything was paid for.

So he was a very wealthy moron? Otherwise he would have gotten some need based aid or some academic scholarships.

I am going to generalize here...this does not apply every where, but will ring true for fully funded G5s and mid majors (a lot of the MWC, Sun Belt, AAC, CUSA and MAC programs are fully funded) and P5s that are more conference focused.

In a conference with 10 or more programs on men's side, coaches shoot to get a point for 10% scholarship. You may be able to pay less for field eventers, and you will sometimes have to over scholarship sprints and distance as they are more heavily recruited.

You will always have a number of athletes who don't quite pull their weight (most teams don't score 120 points), especially in track events. But you will also get those exceptional 12-20 point guys too, and they are more common in the track vs. the field.

When recruiting out of HS you do try to project, but it is also good to try to sign a guy who has financial incentive to push.

8th in the Pac-12 were 3:41/13:49.

16th were 3:44/14:06.

Which is why it is so rare for a HS male to get a full offer to the P5...it is so tough to score. You have to develop and earn it.

But, it is also untrue when people say there are no fulls at the DI level.

A 14:10 5k guy is worth a little in ACC or Pac 12, only if you are trying to round out an XC team, but it is not a scoring athlete.

But at most schools in the AAC or CUSA a 14:10 guy who is consistent and can either steeple or run sub 30 would be worth a full ride (those schools typically have the full amount). That's a guy who can score top 5 in two events.

Not understanding your angle. No, he transferred as a 14:50 guy and ran 13:50s within 6 months of training under the program/coach.

8th best in the ACC was 14:06.

8th in the 10k was 29:41.

14:10 and 30:00 minute guys don't score anything. They aren't full. They aren't helping at all.

Maybe it was Duke. Their academic scholarships are very, very rare and typically awarded to more "intersectional" people.

Can you confirm whether you need to bring your own detergent? I am a rising Senior, and I have been researching more into the cost per load calculations on the higher end detergents. This would be a huge plus if I can't get a full ride.

Interesting. I’m assuming the CU coaching staff would not be happy with an incoming male freshman making the claim he has a “full ride” for running? Recent grad from the Denver metro, who committed very late, is making that claim to anyone who will listen.
