Honestly, it's very disappointing that all he wants is quick fame. And for that he is always on the hunt for talented Africans, while doing absolutely nothing to develop athletes in Sweden.
He gives the excuse of how clubs work, etc. Nothing is stopping him from coaching his countrymen and women privately. But he won't get his quick fame that way.
Why you admire this man is a mystery to me.
You obviously don't know about the Swedish club system.You in most cases have to be a member of the runners club to be the coach. In Almgrens case his coach was a member of same club and further on his coach became a head coach for middle/ long distances at the special sport 'college' Almgren studied at. Not many knows Almgren got very nasty injuries that almost ended his career.My opinion the injuries were due to too much training. He is a great talented runner and I contacted him when he was young to try get him interested in my Dancan system. I'm sure I had coached him to sub 13 with no injuries and fast improvement on low mileage. 🧙♂️

Yes, and also Mohammed Mourhit, Belgium, former Moroccan, and even Smail Sghyr, sub 13:00, France, former Moroccan....sorry the list is somewhat perplexing with quite a few former Africans becoming Euro Citizens. What about Moukheld Al Otaibi, Saudi Arabia, sub 13:00, Gulf Arab? You get the picture.

I am crying for the great Swede as it looks like he missed a great opportunity to run well under 13 minutes and he was right in contention with the best runners until 12 minutes and 17 seconds in the race when he suddenly fell down. Not sure who tripped him up but obviously it was not intentional in the heat of the moment.

His training is not like my linear Dancan system method. It's more like a phase system where he starts in the autumn to build a big base of aerob running and threshold training away from the track often on gravel roads during the winter and then speed up the training with faster work in the spring when the track season closing up. A typical Lydiard approach......Tack! 🧙♂️🖐🇸🇪

No way. He told he felt very fresh when last lap started. With his very good sprint finish he had been close to Katir and Kejelcha.

Sir, at least with his low mileage JS would have preserved Almgren's legs. Let's look at the positives.

I doubt that anybody else in that field has his natural speed (sub 23 200m @ 16 years and 1:45 800m). He stated that he felt fresh when the last lap started. Well, I guess we will never know for sure but hopefully he will have more opportunities.

For real. Being in a likely position to run 12:55-58 is pretty much where he was. Tough he fell but he’s kicking in 52-53 to contend with the top two? Not sure when the humble Almgren morphed into Yifter the Shifter.
