It all depends on what kind of career you want. I may subscribe to a fly and sometimes die race strategy but in my career I've been a mid pack guy.
My career advice? Be useful. You may be easily replaceable but when it's time to replace people they look for broken parts not the ones they can count on to get the job done.

So? You still got paid, and presumably you lived a life full of opportunities to use that money to acheive your own personal goals. It's not your employer's job to care about you.
