Jerry coaches UO women to title in year 1!

He ended a 15-year winning streak by the UO men. How is that a success? The women won last year and 10 of the past 15 pac-12 champs. I wouldn't call that improvement. So he didn't screw up the women's team like he did the men's. Great.

Burritos don’t discriminate against event types. They help all athletes regardless of sprint/throws/jumps/mid-distance/distance event.

The Oregon men were going to lose this year whether Jerry was there or not.

This is the most well-funded and historic program in the country. They are supposed to be contending for national championships annually. The scrutiny is justified. An athletic director at any school would look closely at the point distribution as well.

Stealing Coach Blu away from Tennessee was Jerry’s best decision since he took the job. Pretty much every thrower that has been Bowerman nominated was a Blu athlete.

As a state Oregon high school has a great throwing tradition, one of the few states that throw Jav.

If this were football or basketball, real fans would be saying to let the head coach get his own guys in before casting judgement. Winning a PAC12 title with one of his squads was pretty impressive. The men are clearly down after losing a major sprint recruit and probably others with the change. For some reason everyone forgot Jerry is pretty much working with another coach's athletes (who was failing at cross country).

The Powell's landed scoring distance grad transfers, while Jerry injured one of his potentially scoring distance men. And athletes with eligibility chose not to complete for UO. Is the loss of 4 scoring athletes on Jerry?

Absolutely right. Keep in mind that weight work and technique for the throws (and sprints) are quicker acting and get more dramatic results than distance coaching. But Jerry didn't even get or allow the distance guys to race for the most part, which must be a strategy either to get them to drop or to get them to quantum leaps next year from a year of training. He had considerable talent and did almost nothing with it outside the steeple. If he was just trying to get rid of them by not racing them, honoring prior commitments made by last year's coaches, then we'll see nearly a clean slate next year with the tremendous recruits coming in, Harrison competing, and a bunch of high quality transfers. But next year he gets no slack.

Lol I don't care. He hasn't even gone a full calendar year as head coach there. You were probably part of the same group of people who were crying about Jerry in September of last year.

He’s repeating the same trajectory that got Martin Smith unceremoniously discarded. No interest in the town, its culture or history, no desire to rub shoulders with alumni with pocketbooks, and a coaching philosophy that keeps the press at arms length at a minimum. I give it two more track seasons before he is on his merry way. His two assistant distance coaches hated Oregon passionately before deciding to go coach there.

What Martin Smith did isn't really relevant as that was several years ago. Also, if you are going to judge Jerry the same way you judge Martin you should give him the seven years or so that he had at Oregon before you decide to make more uninformed assumptions.

Some quick to cry about new hires. It has to be jealousy, right? I just don't understand how people can be so outraged 10 months into a hire.

As I said in an earlier post this thread is chock full of anti-Schumacher haters who are oblivious to reason. If three years in Schumacher still has poor results on the men's side criticism would certainly be fair. But first year, working with athletes recruited by the prior regime, most of whom are 3rd tier talents at best, Schumacher should be given time to rebuild. I guarantee that any other coach coming into a similar situation would not be criticized the way Schumacher has.

This notion that the prior "regime" left them with just have 3rd tier talents at best is totally false. Rheinhardt Harrison ran 1:48 (at a state meet)/3:59 last year in high school, among the best recruits in history, and barely competed this year at Oregon. Elliott Cook, who has done very well this year (1:46.9/3:55 indoors), was a high school 1:51 guy. Vincent Mestler ran 1:50/3:49 in high school. They have at least one other hs 1:51 guy, as well as Larry Josh Edwards, who ran 4:05/8:46 2M as a junior in high school, an 8:54 guy, and a 9:04 guy. James Gormley ran 1:49.81/3:42 before Oregon. Angus Folmli ran 1:49/3:46/8:22 before Oregon. Matthew Erickson ran 1:50 in high school. James Harding ran 1:47.96/3:45 for New Zealand before Oregon. A number of the new guys still have no bio on the website and it's May of 2023. That just indicates how little Jerry cares. He's done a terrible job with the men's distance program this year, or a great, but completely invisible job that we won't see until next year, with the exception of Cook.

Under Powell, most of those guys would be running sub-4 already.

That is a ridiculous amount of talent.

They went from 1st to 6th. I take my previous comments back. Even Martin Smith would have run his top guys at conference.
