When reading the threads lately, I feel more certain than ever that the US is going down a path that will inevitably end in a break up. Do you all feel similarly?
There are no clear geographical lines to make a split. There are blue urban pockets inside red states, and red pockets of suburban and rural areas inside blue states.
Sure, there are political divisions and ideological differences within the US, but also in virtually every other country on the planet. It's not like there is one insurmountable issue today, like free states vs. slave states, that led to the civil war.
Our system still works. The Union that the founding fathers created under the Constitution is still far better that any system I can imagine if there were to be any kind of "national divorce." Anyone who thinks otherwise and longs for the dissolution of the United States is a effing traitor in my opinion.
WHEN we are forced to choose between 80-something year old Biden and 80-something year old Trump, I think both sides will realize how ludicrous this has become. It boggles my mind that these will be the candidates, again.
The point was brought up in the context of war between left and right.

No there wasn't trade between north and south during the civil war. The north even blockaded the South so they couldn't trade with anyone else either.
I didn't say "NO OTHER countries" would trade I said countries at war with each other don't trade with each other.
Farm subsidies were created by FDR you should love them. Farmers made over $100 billion last year and received less than $30 billion in subsidies. The notion that farms can't continue without subsidies is silly.
I don't think it 100% will but I do think it is more likely than not.
States like Nevada are entertaining the idea of ignoring the will of their own people and giving the state's electoral votes to the national popular vote winner.

This is such a childish point. Rural states are reliant on food being purchased. It's trade, not charity. If you don't sell it, it will just rot in the ground.
Why do we have to divide into two contiguous countries? Why not divide up into six or seven like Yugoslavia did? New England, West Coast, Great Lakes, Red Mexico (Colorado and New Mexico), South, Texas, Plains States, Appalachia, Utaraho(Idaho, Utah, Arizona). As far as I know there weren’t any real problems when Yugoslavia did this. If we learn anything from our wars of the past three decades when we divide it won’t matter who has the food or who has the economy. The real question is who has the oil?
