We have merged two threads into 1 as we like to have 1 thread per topic. We don't need a thread on how she's running the 10,000 and then another on how she did. Here is a video of her on the final lap:
Maybe a record run attempt? I personally think not as its not exactly a properly set up situation for that with the right people to make it super fast.
It’ll be her and Amanda Vestri going for the win I imagine.
I doubt this is a record attempt. I bet Tuohy just runs to win and not for time. Vestri has a 32:08. It's more a question of if Vestri (or someone else) tries to push the pace.
I thought if she wasn't running in the 1500m given the short turn around from soundrunning she would just run 5000m on saturday. She talked about focusing on the 1500m. I guess it is a way to get some miles in.
I don't think she's doing it to increase her weekly mileage.
I don’t think she is in the 10K for mileage either. She just came off a very hard effort Saturday. With the 10K she can control her effort and just run to win. I also doubt that she goes for a fast time either. She is going to be in Al Davis mode.( Just win baby.)

Oh well I agree, that’s why I was saying its just not the right situation for that.
I mean, anything is possible, we could be surprised. For all we know a joke has been played on the board, and that was the goal the whole time. The 10,000m NCAA record. We’ve certainly talked about it before, she’s capable of it.
I just don’t see it happening this week. Everything she’s been talking about has been buildup for the 5000 and honing her speed in the latter stages to run a better 5000.
Oh well, things just got real interesting at least, right?

They sure did! I am curious to see how Vestri plays this as well.
In the 1500m, I have hope that Maatoug returns to her form from indoor ACCs. But, I think it is Appleton's race to lose now.
I’m sure Vestri would like the win and will try for it. It is on Tuohy’s track though. Tuohy won’t let an ACC victory go to someone else on her home track. I’m imagining a huge turnout in the stands as well, so the hype could be quite intense during the race. (Kind of like when Pre would run at Hayward, a whole different level of energy).
So, it’ll be interesting to see how fast the two of them make the race.

Maatoug has always been better indoors. Her best results in the Netherlands were generally indoors, then cross country second, and outdoors the weakest. It's held up at Duke other than she made very good progression in cross country especially the European U23 race.
She seems to have switched to 1500 exclusively outdoors, which is a departure from prior years when it was mostly 800 with some 1500s. I think her goal is to qualify for the Netherlands team at 1500 this summer for the European U23 Championships.
Unlike indoors where Maatoug doubled, this time Duke is asking Lauren Tolbert to double at 400 and 800.

Looks like she is doing 10k & 5k at ACCs. Maybe this means she is doing 10k / 5k at nationals now and scrapping the 1500m.
I was hoping she would focus on the 1500 like she has been talking about. I wonder what spurred the change.
Some of you are overthinking this. KT's tempo pace based on her recent 5k is ~5:10 or 32:07 10k pace. That would win. This is a tempo workout. An easy way to train thru conference, pick up a title and team points, all with no travel. Expect her to not wear spikes. Expect her to not double back in the 5k. Expect her in the 1500m come regionals/nationals. Don't overthink this.
Tuohy didn’t want to lose in the 1500m and she would have to Appleton. She fled from a potential loss. It’s that simple. This stage of her sponsorship she can’t lose to a college kid so she’s selecting races with less competition.
Can someone explain how NCAA qualifications work? Are ACC's "survive and advance"? If she is doing 10/5 at ACCs does this mean she will be doing them at NCAA east and nationals as well, or can she choose to other events, like the 1500 at nationals somehow instead?

Yes she has been called NY Hassan for a decade now so whatever Hassan runs, she will too, she will be running the marathon at accs
Hassan ran a 1.56 800m in 2016. IF KT ever gets to that level, then any reference to Hassan might be justified, but certainly isn't now - typical US overhype.
Even a slowpoke like GDS has run 1.58.7 (off a 400m PR of 59). KT should invest some time in getting faster while she is still young and has that capacity, not doing a 10km TR at conference. The girl is fit, a fast 800m should not take much out of her. Frankly I would be more impressed with her breaking 2 minutes at this point, than breaking 15 minutes.

Qualification for NCAA regionals based purely on time, top 48 in each region. Times at conference meet count, placing irrelevant to make NCAA meet. Touhy has qualifier in 1500 and 5k, this will presumably give her a 10k qualifier also.

This makes no sense at all, but not surprising to see such a comment on here. First, Tuohy has never been afraid of competition. Second, when she was getting her 5k qualifier at Wake Forest meet, she even finished behind a couple of teammates. This is not a concern to her.
She is either doing the 10k as a one off kind of thing to take a break from the intensity of last week’s race (and help with team points) or she and her coach see that the 15/5k double isn’t feasible at Nationals so they are looking at 5k/10k instead which is possible.
A double victory at Nationals might strengthen her case for the Bowerman. Even with that, still not sure she can beat out some of those sprinters. Does anyone know if XC counts toward Bowerman or is it strictly indoor and outdoor track?
