It's a fine time... but, for what exactly? He's not in college anymore and doesn't have a job - what exactly does running a 1:52.29 get him? Something to talk about on YouTube? Is that what we are talking about here?
So many threads on here now about non-elite runners and their YouTube channels. People on here are obsessed with YouTube for some reason. Is this a symptom of cell phone addiction - just people staring at their phones all day wanting to be entertained, scrolling social media and watching YouTube?
The thing with Spencer that has people hooked is that he showed promise in college, ran some nice times, and people are anxious to see him return to form and fulfill his potential. It's variable reinforcement, like a gambling addiction. You get a little hit of excitement from watching the improvement, and then when it's taken away you crave it. Not saying people are hooked to watching TAS in the same way someone gets hooked to slot machines, but what has kept people interested all these years is the anticipation of his fairytale ending.

With how advanced technology is, there's no excuse not to have a job at this point. With his skills, he could easily be a fulltime social media manager or at least some cushy tech job that can be done at home. At least when he gives up running he could list some actual work experience and not that he was basically unemployed as an amateur runner/ small-time youtuber for 4 years.

Downvote me I don’t care you haven’t won a war since 1945!
You are on let’s run on a Saturday night that means you have no friends. However where I live has a choice of two kings to bow down to which is preferable to a pensioner who showers with his daughter

why do posters like to pick on this guy so much? It's just a random guy and it's not like 1:52 is a bad time for 99.99% of the human population. Most people who put themselves out there as a runner know that their chance of making it pro are slim to none. Why do you have to make that reality worse by picking a random also-ran to bully? Is it because you had the same dream as him but never even tried? Or is it some other reason, genuinely curious.
I’m not picking on him per se just pointing out that 1.52 is the split for a 3.30 1500m. You U S and A folk have so many amazing athletes you could cheer on but this board is obsessed with a bang average 26 year old with decent club runner pb’s. 2 X Undefeated WW Champs Baby! Soon to be 3. Get behind us and get in the winning side. We've got a little business to take care of here first to set the tone but you'll want to make sure you are on the right side first.

In the US it's still Thursday, smart guy.
Crikey I knew you guys were backward hicks but didn’t realise you were that dumb
Persian gulf 1991? (destroyed Iraqi air force). Iraq? (took capital, dictator killed). Korea? (pushed nk from the sea to china). Kosovo? (ceasefire reached). panama? (capital taken, dictator deposed). Grenada? (island liberated).
I can link this back to the thread. Talk about clutching at straws this is the conflict equivalent of a 26 year old full time athlete running a 1.52 800m and people thinking that it’s impressive.

I cheer for my teammate who runs 15:40 and can’t break 28 in a 200m, does that make me a doosh for not cheering for the guy winning in 14:00 instead?
I want Spence to succeed because he played a huge role in my inspiration to take running more seriously (believe it or not) and I enjoy watching people succeed. Even if that success ends up being him running 1:49 and 3:39 again I’d be happy for him. 1:52 is a plenty good opener for someone who hasn’t raced middle distance in more than a year and is really just looking for 1:49 right now. He’s been doing tempo and short sprints for the most part, have him run some torture effort 200, 300, and 400m reps for the next few weeks and I think he can slip under 1:50.

Technically his job is a YouTuber.....or whatever you call it.
I have to imagine Spencer’s parents are covering his rent or sending him money to help subsidize living in Seattle.
I know he makes money from YouTube but my guess is it must only be like 15-35k. maybe I’m wrong though
either way I guess it’s enough to continue covering expenses out in Seattle and hanging with friends and running. I’m kind of envious this guy is “living the dream” and I wonder if his family is bankrolling him as a post college grad with no real job or not. I respect him for continue to race but at this point it’s pretty clear he’s not going to be a guy to make any breakthroughs or huge performances meaningful enough to qualify for a team or anything.
be curious to see what happens in a few years. Clearly the guy won’t go bankrupt but I wonder if his family does have $ and is giving it to him on a recurring basis so maybe he’s set for life and has no worries.. or if he will realize he’s a 30 year old with no real job or savings for retirement and investments one day lol

Anyway, he said he doesn’t care about the time and that this was about ‘fun’. Then be backtracked and said he wanted to run a pb. Where does this then place him mentally because he has a habit of getting derailed by his head when he doesn’t perform up to whatever standard he set himself and it then sets him back 6 months to a year.
