Sydney doesn't need anyone to "protect" her. She just doesn't like competing outside of major championships. Which is a shame. She should compete more often.

Imagine if you were the world best in your event and there was really little point in racing to prove it. With injury an ever-present threat, and financial security already achieved, I too would race as little as possible. Since when in history did any track athlete run to entertain? No, at top level they run for $ or attention (if they want it) or to leverage towards a future career (which is basically $). The fans have choice whether to pay to see them or not - I don't see the problem.
