This. It's so simple but idiots just don't get it.
They totally get it, they just can’t admit it because that would be admitting they were wrong and we don’t do that in politics anymore.
Let’s let the school shootings that are actually happening keep happening so I can keep my power fantasy that won’t happen, where I can defend my house from waves of military soldiers with my epic arsenal of weapons that were made for the soul purpose of killing people.
Please state your opinion as to why the US has so many mass shootings. I don't espouse one view or another, I'm just curious what people here genuinely think.
Summary: the '600 per year' number is almost exclusively black on black crime, while the public 'mass shootings' are almost (but not 100%) exclusively young white males
"...a different sort of mass violence — one that erupts with such anesthetic regularity that it is rendered almost invisible, except to the mostly black victims, survivors and attackers."
"Among the cases examined by The Times were 39 domestic violence shootings, and they largely involved white attackers and victims. So did many of the high-profile massacres, including a wild shootout between Texas biker gangs that left nine people dead and 18 wounded. Over all, though, nearly three-fourths of victims and suspected assailants whose race could be identified were black."
"Outside an Orlando, Fla., housing project, lewd comments about a young man’s pregnant girlfriend resulted in 15 to 20 gunshots. A 10-year-old boy who peered out his window at the fracas was struck directly in one eye. One of three wounded adults later acknowledged that “a one-on-one fist fight would have settled the issue,” the police report said."
"The Elks Lodge shooting was one of five last year in Cincinnati that resulted in at least four casualties. The others took place on street corners, on a front porch and at a cookout in a parking lot. Police officials say they suspect that as many as half of the 24 victims were not the intended targets; community workers blame self-taught gunmen who are often high on drugs or are drunk. “They are not marksmen,” said Aaron Pullins, an anti-violence worker. “They don’t know how to hold the gun. They just shoot.” Investigators have linked three of those shootings to gangs"
"“They are groups of friends who rob and shoot each other,” Detective Greg Gehring said. “That’s just what they do.”"
"Rival gang members, seeking revenge for an earlier shooting, had already tried to run Jonathan Austin, 24, off the road when they caught up to him in early December outside the Schwarz Market in East Westwood, the police said. They chased him and his friends for an entire block, firing up to 50 shots. Mr. Austin was killed. Three of his friends were injured, including an 18-year-old who was shot repeatedly in the back, damaging his spine. Detective Gehring said that when he talked to the teenager last month, he was bedridden in his mother’s apartment, worried he would never move his legs again."
"“White folks don’t want to say it because it’s politically incorrect, and black folks don’t know how to deal with it because it is their children pulling the trigger as well as being shot,”"
"F.B.I. statistics show that African-Americans, who constitute about 13 percent of the population, make up about half of both gun homicide victims and their known or suspected attackers"
"From his hospital bed, one of four young men shot last May at one of Cincinnati’s most violent intersections pointed a police officer to a suspect. He gave the man’s first name. And he suggested that he had been shot in retaliation for an earlier shooting in the same area. Officers were able to identify the suspect and confirm that his car had been shot up a few days earlier, said Police Specialist Mark Longworth, who headed the inquiry. But “that’s where this case died,” he said. The injured victim attributed his information purely to “street talk,” not to direct knowledge that would stand in court. Hints are not evidence."
"In Baltimore, the police have not solved any of 11 shootings last year. New Orleans made arrests in only one of eight cases; Chicago, two of 16."
Actual school shootings (a gunman walks into a building randomly and kills multiple people, typically with an AR15) happen about every 4 years. While these are very tragic, you can offer thoughts and prayers to the victims.
Most 'school shootings' are gang-related crime that happens near or on school grounds.

And I think that’s a good point as to why this needs to stop being a politically polarizing issue. I think the majority of Americans believe it’s absolutely okay to own self defense/hunting weapons. You aren’t going to shoot up a school super successfully if you have an 8 round pistol or 4-6 round hunting rifle, both of which will require a direct hit to a vital organ to be lethal. You can absolutely defend a home invasion or attacker with that kind of firepower though.
You take high caliber ARs with large magazines and high yield shotguns that are literally designed to not only kill people, but to kill armored people and more than 1 at a time, and now you might have to use DNA to accurately identify the victims. You will also obliterate your house and potentially the family you are defending in the process. It’s completely unnecessary.

How can this not be a political issue when one political party effectively stands in the way of any measures to tackle the very issue you're pointing out? And calling for less doors and arming teachers are not serious solutions, it's bullsh!t gaslighting so they can keep on sucking on that NRA teet
The short answer is easy access to firearms. The US has more guns per capita than any country. 4 times more than a country like Canada. There are more guns than people in the US.
Here are the 4 (big-ish: all above 225k population) cities with homicide rates below 1/100k:
1. Irvine, CA 2. Chula Vista, CA 3. Fremont, CA 4. Boise, ID
California has a lot of gun control and these cities are safe. On the other hand, Idaho has very little gun control (just like New Hampshire) yet has a very low murder rate.
Answer: Inner-city people shooting inner-city people with handguns.
1. Handguns are everywhere and constitutionally-protect by all reasonable definitions.
2. Inner-city violence is a combination of bad culture that we aren't allowed to criticize and a left-wing socialist system that removes any substantial consequences for significant bad-life decisions.
#1 is not going to change, sorry kids, solve for another variable. Admitting to #2 would solve the problem in 10 years but 50% of the population has decided it's racist to discuss the issue and the Welfare Industrial Complex and the socialists/Democrats that support it, have too much to loss by solving the problem (jobs, departments, voters/power, tax-payer money diversions, etc).

You call it a fantasy, I call it the norm of nearly all of civilized human history outside of the experience of the United States and it's influence around the world since WW2. Put away your Learning History coloring books.
First mistake is believing what the media tells you. Name one "school shooting" where they showed crime scene photos. This is never done. Whatever the television tells Americans, Americans WILL believe it.
Every year there are about 80,000 shootings in the USA. There are about 100 every weekend in Chicago for example, that do not fall into the "Mass" category but should. The legal system is 100% reactive and not proactive. Until it gets bad enough that people say Do not let people who fire guns in public illegally out of jail, ever; it will never ever stop. There are too many guns out there already to make any gun laws effective. The existing laws aren't even enforced. Bad guys don't care about laws. If a bad guy gets shot, people actually complain.

If you don't see the crime scene photos, it didn't happen? How could that many people collude to make up school shootings? Nonsense.
Look it up yourself. I don't post links anymore as one side will claim it's fake or that the site is not a source (that's their latest response).
In 2017 there was 348 mass shootings.
In 2021 there was 693 mass shootings.
But...it's Trump's fault, all of it!
Serious answer: There was and always will be bad people who get a hold of guns. That will never change. How kids are getting them is insane and some adults have to be held responsible.
Wrong, its Americans love affair with guns. Every country has “bad people”. Guns make people think they a tougher and cause more confrontations. When you can shoot someone vs having to fight them, are emboldened to be stupider. Like that guy in KC, instead of asking why someone is at your door , you shoot first. More and more people are relying on guns.
Yes a few people need guns due to where they live(ie the wilderness) but most people don’t (but think they do because of Republican&NRA scare tactics)
Do you think that white woman that got swarmed and beaten by a mob of 50 black teenagers in chicago on the weekend wishes she would have had a gun?
