Oregon had some guys in the 1500 at Bryan Clay this weekend. One of them ran 4:05 and another ran 4:11. Those are 1500m times, mind you, not mile. And these runners have PRs of 3:49 and 3:46, respectively. For a program with the pedigree of Oregon, that’s frankly embarrassing.
So, is this all somehow part of Jerry’s master plan? Are they just running exhausted from killer workouts? Or is Oregon kaput?
I would suspend judgement for a couple of years; they have Connor Burns, Birnbaum as well in their recruited class. is the magic gone for Oregon? who knows. If I was a miler though, I'd want to go to Washington; no one can deny their success, lol. Or possibly Drake, as discussed on this thread, since it looks like they're starting something
Nobody actually thinks the Drake coach is one of the best 1500m coaches. Basten is the fastest on his team by 10 seconds. Their top female has only run 4:23
They had Fogg last year, but he was a 3:40 runner who transferred in and ran 3:38 before getting injured and not even making it to their conference meet.
The coach is doing a good job but is nowhere near the conversation for top 1500m coaches.

Good question. He ducked top-level HS competition last year, so it's appropriate that he's now a Duck. Talented guy but a soft competitor, actually a NON-competitor. Perfect fit for weird Jerry Schumacher.
Did it rain yesterday? Did it rain the day before? Answer is no. Perfect running weather. It also didn't rain last Saturday for a glorious race in Camas. Yes, it sprinkled earlier today but it was just that...a sprinkle. The sun is peaking out right now as I type this in SW Portland.
Dude, I just came in from a four hour HS track meet and we were all soaked five times over.
It hailed so hard that the field was totally white. And then the wind kicked up. In twenty minutes it rained so hard again that you couldn't see the trees on the other side of the track. The HOST SCHOOL pulled their 4x400 relay teams in hopes that we'd bail and they could cancel the event and end early because everyone was freezing and soaked. We didn't.
It has been cold (40°s) every day this Spring with no really good days of "bluebird" weather yet. Trust me, it sucks right now. But yes, if you wear a long sleeve shirt, gloves, and a beanie, you can run every day, which is what I do. 48° is and raining is totally doable. But don't act like it is "great" for running.

They have a massive recruiting class coming in. Top 3 in country.
That class was sold Oregon largely on Jerry hype. Results from Year 1 Jerry are objectively abysmal.
jerry doesn’t give a damn about his college guys, he got offered a bag and he took it. He’ll be gone in 3 years tops. They’ll have a solid administrative coach to take his place and hire somebody like Vanhoy to run mid / distance on the men’s side for 2027 XC

i thought adam fogg had appendicitis last year and that was why he wasn't at ncaas
Still wondering what is going on with uber talented Tom Palfrey who ran 1:48.2 and 3:40 as high schooler in Australia. I mean I'm sure Jerry is a good coach but lets hope he can get Tom to a starting line soon.

Please don’t bring actual facts into a conversation. This is letsrun after all.
You realize there is a men’s and women’s team right? The women are ranked 4th. The men are behind, but will be a presence next year.
The men are well behind. They're currently ranked 146th, which, coincidently, also ranks them 3rd out of the 3 D1 schools in the state of Oregon behind Portland (#63, literally puts all of its resources in distance) and Portland State (#79). It also looks like both squads are being carried by the throws, which is ironic for a program being run by a "distance oriented" coach.
Jerry's success seems to be centered around really hard workouts. Maybe even harder/more taxing than races. Do that, don't race, and then show up for the championships.
When you have pros whose job it is to recover, are freaks talents, are used to it, and act like professionals outside of practice this works. NOP did similar and ON gets after it pretty hard too.
In general we will see how this philosophy works in college, but we aren't even to championship season yet. I have a feeling they will suddenly show up then.
BTC never makes much splash and then shows up in later in the year.
