Loaded Bryan Clay Womens 1500!

Will their be a heat for the not loaded, or just beer 1500?

Obviously very few, since very few US women in general can break 4:05.

These are mostly college runners. The pros like Hiltz and Cranny have run under 4:05.

Willis and Whittaker are also both scheduled to run 2 races at Mt SAC, including the 800, so who knows what they are actually going to do.

That is Terrible splitting the team up and have them run different meets on the same Day, and why so many meets in Southern California on one Weekend, they should have these meets on different weekends, this is beyond stupid and terrible for team bonding, have The Entire Team at One Meet at a time, so people can run their events and root/support for their teammates when they are not competing, Team Bonding and Camraderie are very Important.

Give me a break. They see their teammates every day for 4 years. Not seeing them for a few hours will not destroy their "team bonding and camaraderie".

Plus teams can't get all of their runners into Mt SAC because Mt SAC doesn't have enough races for everyone. So having some of their runners run at Bryan Clay is much better than leaving those runners home.

It's actually terrible for the sport, fans have no idea where they should be to see the people they want to see run. If you/I want to see the Willis/Whittaker battle, You/I have no idea which meet they will actually be racing at because they are entered in both. The issue isn't with the coaches, since they will always game the system to optimize their team's performance, the issue is with the meet directors being unwilling to bend or be flexible for the betterment of the sport. There is no "good" reason these 2 meets had to be on the same weekend.

You're mixing two totally different things.

Having half of a team's athletes at one meet and the other half at another meet is totally fine. Beats leaving half of the team at home.

But having the same athlete enter 2 different meets being held at the same time shouldn't be allowed.

For example, Willis and Whittaker are entered in the 800 at both Bryan Clay and Mt SAC but they will obviously only be running the 800 at one of those meets. So yes, in that case it's a real mess for fans to try and guess which meet they should go to if those are runners they want to see.

I'm not mixing anything, I'm stating my opinion on 2 issues. Issue 1, it's stupid to have 2 high profile meets 8 miles apart from each other on the same weekend. Issue 2, they are registering athletes in both meets an no one know where anyone will be. Both issues are bad for the sport. Track and field already has a limited following and spreading that already small fan base between 2 meets over a small geographic area is STUPID!

The Bryan Clay meet started as a low key meet to take the Mt. SAC overflow. It was scheduled at the same time to provide a second meet option for athletes who didn’t get into Mt. SAC “A squad goes to Mt. SAC, B squad goes to Bryan Clay, so the whole team can go to SoCal to get a qualifying mark.” But the conditions for distance events are unbeatable at Azusa Pacific in the evening, so the Bryan Clay distance festival grew exponentially. Now Long Beach State is also hosting a meet that weekend so there are three options. The 3 meet directors are in touch with each other, at least a little bit.

Thanks for the historical take Norm, I'm well aware of what it was supposed to be and what it is now. The Tiger Invitational operates under the same premise as this, being the alternate meet to Arcadia for HS runners who don't qualify. If the Tiger invite started attracting the Irene Riggs and Aaron Sahlmans and directly competing with Arcadia, you can bet that Rich Gonzalez would do something about it. I know people here like to argue just for the sake of arguing, but there is nothing good about having these 2 meets on the same weekend in their current form, and there is nothing good about registering top athletes in both. as for the weather being better at Azusa, WTF are you talking about? An athlete could run their cool down from one to the other, that's how close they are. The weather is the same.

When do the coaches have to let the meet organizers know for sure about whether an athlete is running?

So after complaining multiple times that you don't understand why Bryan Clay and Mt SAC Relays are the same weekend, you finally admitted that all this time you actually did know why both meets are the same weekend. You're a real nut.

Now, if MSAC were to allow close to 600 athletes per event then BC wouldn't exist but that's not what MSAC has decided to do.

Sure it would be nice to have all of the athletes at the same meet but that is not reality.

BC is actually a good thing for the distance end of track, not a bad thing.

Grace Forbes comes to terms with losing her sport

Grace Forbes has a sweatshirt that she would wear before every race. Her grandfather, who died when she was young, bought it as a souvenir at the 1998 Rose Bowl, before it was passed on to her.
