Just depends on how high of a priority the record is. Jenny Simpson ran her sub-4 1500 at the Pre Classic only 3 days before her 3k steeplechase prelim at nationals

I didn't know that! That is cool.
But where is she going to chase a fast 1500m this season?
Not really surprising. I wouldn't count on her competing until Ramadan is over. If she's not entered in the home meet that should be a sign that another variable is at play.
Maatoug is obviously not injured because the coach showed a brief clip of a workout the other day. Maatoug was in it.
Next year she catches a break. Ramadan begins one day after NCAA indoors finishes.
Eventually she will p.r. at 4:03/14:47.5 Will you guys move on then?
Tuohy may not get into a fast 5000 this year, since it will be likely be very hot in Texas at the NCAA. I do think a time of under 4:03 is likely sometime this spring. And I predict that she will be in the final of the USATF 5000 and make the World Champs team.
To make usatf 5000 interesting, she needs to get the Budapest standard of 14:57 at some point. (Even if you finish top 3, no world team without standard) I actually think she can hit that on her own, with teammates getting her to 3000m. Remember current 4:06 / 15:14 prs were both solo efforts. It won't be in Austin though.
Another big question is how she runs this 2023 usatf race. Last year she let pros dictate jog pace and learned she couldn't close in 4:30. Now she's worked hard on strong close, but is her best chance to place top 3 to trust the new close, or to force an honest race?
With usatf in Eugene, weather could be great. If no world standard by then, kt could risk front running for 14:57, which would be a nice change from jogfest.
First things first we should see which event she runs at UVA. One would think she would try for at least 15:00 or 4:00 this season, with reaching 15:00 I think much more likely. I would think they would try to do something at Penn Relays - maybe a team event, or maybe an individual event if the right race is there. A DMR of Shaw/Chapman/ Bush/Tyynismaa would be pretty strong by itself.

Actually Maatoug is in 1500 Invite heat 3 (w Tyynismaa among others)
Look for Katelyn to lace them up at Wake Forest on the 21st in the 1500m. I had gotten my signals crossed and thought it was going to be at Duke last weekend. Also, expect to see some interesting transfer portal news out of the Pack later this Spring.

UVA (on schedule) or Wake Forest (hosts meet on 21st but not on schedule)?
unrelated to this, Sam Bush is on The Running Effect podcast. Seems to say no races for her for 4 weeks after Raleigh Relays. She does say the next meet to run would either be at Wake Forest or Bryan Clay so it sounds like it is Wake Forest.
