Georgia really not none for 4x4relaying. Actually this the best 4x4 team they have had.

Baylor, UCLA, USC the 4x4 powers, back in the day Arizona State could motor, a WR for a college team.

It is the start of the 800m, if that event is run in lanes (usually not). Some tracks have a line indicating the middle of the 4x400 zone, but often it is a guess.

You still don't have it right. The middle of the exchange zone for the 2nd runner in the 4x4 is the 800m start line in their lane, which is usually colored white/green on most tracks that are red. Also all relay splits are timed when the BATON REACHES THE MIDDLE OF THE EXCHANGE ZONE...regardless of who is holding the baton, not when they hand off.

The split time for first leg is simply the “one turn stagger start line”. As mentioned used for 800 start if run in lanes. Also used for 200 start if wind is in that direction.

So 800 guys, 400 guys (sprinters), hurdlers (sprinters), sprinters, etc. (more sprinters) coming together to run the 4 x 4. Wow!

so in other words one could get DQ if one took baton too early. I believe that happened somewhere this indoor season when outgoing runner had one foot before the start of the exchange zone and had not established that foot in the zone when they took the baton.

So in summary, taking baton early is NOT ok, and I never said Boling should be timed when he took the baton but I clearly said I estimated his time from the one turn stagger line.

You are correct, I know that and assumed others did, but I was not clear. Thanks for noting. Outdoors, getting an accurate split for runners 1 and 2 is difficult, but overall getting splits is easier than when we were all using hanhart stop watches.....ha, ha.

The one turn stagger line is NOT the same as the reverse direction 200m start line and should not be used for this.

If the outgoing runner was starting with one foot before the start of the exchange zone, they should be disqualified no matter when/where the baton is exchanged.

The baton must be in the zone when exchanged. Runners feet don't matter. But the outgoing runner cannot start from in front of the zone.

The middle of the first exchange for the 4x4 is the one turn stagger start line. It is very easy to see in the video. Bolling carries the baton across this line between 44.6-44.8. This line makes taking the first split of any 4x4 very easy as long as you are in a position to see the line.

Sounds good to me. You are explaining it better than I did. Good officials will make sure that all outgoing runners are inside the exchange zone. With 8 lanes, that is sometimes missed. And yes, it is all about where the baton is and not where the incoming and outgoing runner is. The baton has to be within the 20 meter zone. I think someone else gave his splits in the 44+ range, rather than 43+. Good call.

No I think Boling had the baton at the start of his 400 m leg at the line at 44.6-44.8 and finished his leg at 1:28.50 (which we know from FAT) so he was sub 44. I originally guessed 44.9 for Godwin and 43.6 for Boling but I could go with 44.7 and 43.8 just as well.

Where was Dwight getting his splits from? I think he said the opening leg was 46.4 and Boling ran 44.6. You don't run a 2:58 with a 46-plus leg.

Florida ran the same time as Georgia at NCAAs last year. Miley split a 45.82 on the 3rd leg.

Definitely think Georgia will take down the record this year!

From the first stagger past the finish line, Boling gets 43.6 until the stick crosses the finish line, which, if so, puts him at low to mid 44 open. He really ought to consider competing in the open this year, especially with the two top guys shifting down to the 100m.

Great race. I haven't seen an anchor come back like that in the homestretch after being passed by a couple of very fast runners in a high level 4x4.

It is super easy to pick Sumner over Cade Flatt. That rail Flatt stepped on may be a season killer. Sumner is rolling and he may break 1:45.
