I see a lot of posts on here claiming that high mileage is THE key to success in distance running, regardless the runner. This simply isn’t true. Anyone who has run 100+ mpw (with 2 workouts and an honest LR) knows how much it breaks down your body.
Unless you have your nutrition, sleep, and strength work dialed in, it’s not even work trying. And if you do have everything dialed in, you still might not respond well.
Let’s say you’re injured for 4 weeks after 4 100-mi weeks. Or you’re simply overtrained and feeling lethargic every waking moment. Wouldn’t it be better to run 50 mpw for 8 weeks? Of course. But the long term benefits!, people will argue. Look at Cam. It took him 10+ years of 170-190 mpw to reap the rewards. Are you willing to sacrifice 10 years of performances to finally reach your goals? Huge respect if you’re one of those guys. But personally, I’ll take 10 years of guaranteed good performances over a chance to have 1 legendary year.
That said, it’s incredible to see where high mileage took Cam. It’s just not for everyone.
Never heard of cam so I'm guessing he didn't have too much success.
Doesn't cheptegai do 90mpw?
