tuohy is good but is NOTHING compared to other NCAA athletes. Talitha Diggs has an World Championship Gold Medal. Tuohy wasn't even close to qualifying.
Talitha runs one event. She wouldn't last a day being a distance runner.
Diggs already has a gold medal, that's more than Tuohy will ever win. Diggs can probably beat Tuohy in an 800 too.
If 4x1500 were an Olympic event in 2024/beyond, she (and the U.S.) might stand a chance, but it's a sprint-oriented sport. That's why all you need as a HS coach is a stable of 400 guys who can move up/down and a few field studs.

I guarantee the 50.15 from Diggs is much higher on the points table than anything Tuohy has even run. Heck, it's .15 faster than Bol's personal best entering this season and faster than anything Miller-Uibo has ever run indoors, including the indoor world championship gold last year.
That 50.15 didn't earn nearly as much attention as warranted, probably because it came after Bol's two sub 50s instead of prior.
I wasn't posting here at the time but I'm surprised there was expectation Valby might win. When I watched the NCAA cross country final I was baffled by the commentator's emphasis and tone. I kept thinking...he doesn't actually expect this to hold up, does he?
Tuohy is a great runner and can be a great pro, but wow, what is up with the Tuohy worship on this site? I could understand if she was setting World/American Records and winning Olympic/World "Gold" Medals. Even Silver or Bronze Medals. Even winning World Cross Country Championships. It's like a cult following. It's sad because she is an excellent runner/racer, but wow.

agreed there are some people who take this waaaaayyyy too far.
And it's worth reminding that there are many people her age or who were her age that are at the highest level of their sport, while she is an NCAA star, but not close.
Athing Mu
Keely Hodgkinson
Talitha Diggs
Sydney McLaughlin (16 y/o Olympian)
to name a few.
But this site is primarily an American distance running site. It's mostly American cross-country and distance runners who frequent it. Thus far, there hasn't been an American runner since the site's inception as exciting as Tuohy. A generational talent who is truly living up to the hype of her youth, who really has a shot to make things happen, and who hasn't fizzled out. So it's easy to get caught up in it.

maybe if Mu and Syd got out and raced once in awhile it would be a little easier to get excited about them.

My take on this: classic rise then fall but rise again storyline. Tuohy came on the running scene very young, rose up the ranks quickly (NXN, Gatorade awards, records, Sports Illustrated cover, etc.) She had many fans but others resented all the attention she got and the fan wars began. EVERY new standout runner that came along was going to be “the one” to overtake her achievements. Then came her injury issues, Covid shutdown, knee surgery, transition to college that included a lot of time where she wasn’t able to run. I specifically remember one poster on here saying she wouldn’t even make NC State’s top 7 in XC ever - that’s how extreme the negativity was on LRC. But then comes the redemption arc in the story where she makes the climb back up all the way up to the top of the NCAA where she is today. People love a good comeback story and that may explain the intensity of some fans along with some lasting bitterness from the fan wars.
