I mean, my kids come home with the same propaganda about pilgrims and indians during thanksgiving so I kinda doubt the curriculum around that sort of stuff has changed much.
Yeah, TheDoltInTheRoom is about as sharp as a potato. Just reading some of his posts will reveal how dense he is.
The Associated Press which is supposedly "journalism" ran a story based on the word of teenagers who can't read at a 3rd grade level and didn't represent the school's side of the story.
Anyone who thinks this is journalism is a moron.
There's a reason I'm continually insulted but never refuted. You cannot defend your positions.
We all know that their "slavery lesson" would basically be "the white man swooped down with nets and captured innocent Africans", rather than the actual truth that slaves were sold by other Africans to the Europeans.
Well then.....the slave owners of the US have nothing about which to be ashamed!

1. These "slave owners" have been dead for over a century.
2. Something like 2% of the population owned slaves.
Slavery still exists TODAY in Africa. Why do you cry yourself to sleep over the 1800s yet don't care at all about slavery happening now?
Is it because they want to highlight lesser known things? Everyone knows that slavery happened and knows about the civil rights movement and who MLK JR is. But there are a lot of stories of black people that no one knows about, maybe they want people to learn something new.
A whole article based upon a rumor. This is the world we live in. Rumors can be dangerous. They had riots and buildings looted over a rumor a BLM protestor was shot by police in Minnesota, when the reality was he was a homicide suspect who shot himself.
Minneapolis police released surveillance video of a murder suspect committing suicide Wednesday — to dispel widespread rumors that cops killed the man. The false reports of a police-involved …

The press has a duty to do better than this (Like looking for actual evidence).
The press SHOULD have higher standards and integrity, but that has gone out the window when they learned they can manipulate the masses for ad money. As someone with a B.S. in Comm/Journalism, the amount of things I see people read and accept as fact is terrifying. Borderline cult-behavior.
Well, I'm Irish and Cuban, so I'm not white. Why should I feel guilty over something I didn't do? Slavery only occurred since Africans sold other Africans they captured...
Slavery only occurred since Africans sold other Africans they captured...
Also, I might point out that its quite a bit more complicated than that. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt seeing as your school taught you that 'Europeans swooped in with nets and captured Africans to enslave them' as you said.
Is there some requirement that there still be people alive today that experienced a thing in order to teach and learn about the history of that thing?
I don't understand what hang up or sensitivity is around this topic for white people. Its weird how defensive so many of you are about history.
There's literally people running around who think it happened to them because they have the same skin color as the people who were actually slaves.
You're assuming the 15 year reading at a 3rd grade level is telling the truth.
If the school itself was actually refusing to teach these things this would be a bigger story than it was.
I am actually not assuming anything other than that the majority of the people commenting in this thread are white and appear to be defensive about this topic based on their responses.

If you actually read the article you would notice that the Tuscaloosa County Superintendent is given ample space to refute the allegation. In fact, if you do a quick word count, 41% of the article is presenting his position. It looks like it is not only teenagers who can't read at a 3rd grade level.
