Cal Poly men competed in their first ever indoor neet

Nope, no one thinks that… adding a sport is subsidized by the NCAA… adding indoor will actually make the school money… but cal poly should probably cut football because that is definitely costing a lot of money that I would recon is not helping their athletic dept thrive. Though Fb donors I’m sure are a huge donor base to the dept and the college I would wager that without football the athletics dept could make some very dramatic changes for the better.

Why can’t we simply be happy that:

A Div 1 school has decided to invest more $ in track and field by (a) hiring a top track coach (b) allow athletes to also do the indoor season.

It has already yielded dividends, as pretty much the whole team is doing extremely well already.

Can’t wait to see what they will do in their second meet.

I see can on their schedule that they are planning to go to BU last chance meet. They are taking indoor seriously

Schools get money for each sport they sponsor, like 40 grand… it will not cost poly 80,000$ (men and women, i assume they add both) to travel to a few indoor meets each year.

Does Fresno State no longer have an indoor track/do they no longer set it up?

Pointless for any teams to run anywhere indoor other than:

Washington

BU

The “New Balance” track ???

…and a few other tracks (Arkansas maybe…).

So location of University is irrelevant unless you are close to those 2 (or 3) tracks

No point to run anywhere else

Sure, Poly has not competed in indoors for awhile, but they had athletes compete in the San Francisco Examiner Games, the Athens Games in Oakland, Sunkist in LA and the LA Times Indoor in the 70s. This is not the first time Poly has competed indoors.

There WAS an Fresno State Indoor track. It's no longer there. It was 145 YARDS around although it wasn't from the YARDS days. It's been gone a few years now but that's probably what that video is.

Of the middle of the rockies in Bozeman. Super nice indoor track.

Several UC and CSU Universities have indoor tracks. They probably aren't up to competition standards though. They're mostly three lane tracks around basketball gyms.

5000m: 13:58.92 (3 runners went below old record)

All 6 Cal Poly runners ran PBs

There are 3 other D-1 CSU’s with men’s indoor track and field, CSUN, CSU/Fullerton and Long Beach State so CP/SLO adding it is nothing extraordinary.

The indoor track in Fresno was formerly used for the Sunkist meet in LA. It didn’t belong to Fresno State. I think that it was rented by someone in the community. The meets were a joke and the only schools that went there were the ones that needed and extra counter.

The last indoor meets in Reno were in 2006. After that the oval was condemned which is what happens when you leave outside for 10 months a year. There have been rumors for years that they’re going to get a new track but I’ll believe that when I see it.

No UC’s or CSU’s have indoor tracks. Not even 3 lanes.

You're right, this whole collegiate track thing is just a big waste of money. The fiscally responsible thing to do is "hang 'em up" and go watch the football game so we can observe a proper capitalist sport.
