I've done 3 months before, I can do it.

I too am doing a dry January. Peppermint tea after dinner scratches my drinking itch.

Sure.
But if you are picking one month to be sober, then I think July is a better month than January.

Trade short days and long nights for long days and short nights.
You’re not paying attention to and having gatherings for mid season baseball.
We know alcohol and fireworks is a bad combination.
And summer at the beach is when you want to shed pounds.

I find this kind of comment interesting. My normal drinking routine is one drink per night. It's very rare for me to have two drinks, though I actually will often overdrink the week before dry Lent / dry January. Otherwise, I might have two drinks once or twice a month. I don't find my one nightly beer makes me feel bad at all. I really enjoy it, feel a bit more mellow after a long day, and honestly can't detect any feeling of being hungover in the morning vs how I feel during my dry month.

Now two drinks are a different story. After two drinks I feel a bit off the morning and generally regret having had the second drink. On the rare occasion I have 3+ drinks, I always regret it and feel terrible about myself for being such a drunk the next day.

The reason I do a dry month is that I do love my one drink and am always tempted to have a second, though I rarely give in to temptation. I feel like I'm a natural drinker and I need to keep it in check.

The phrase you're looking for is 'out of the closet.'

I'm doing dry January as well! No hard liquor for the month. Even beer I'm limiting to no more than 2 per day on weekdays, 3 per day on weekends. Will keep you all updated on how it's going!

I think it’s a good idea to do a dry week, month, 40 days haha, etc. Many people who are alcohol dependent, could skip a day here or there, and not feel any withdrawals. But if you are able to easily drop alcohol for 30 days, you’re probably not alcohol dependent, you just drink from habit.

A couple of posters mentioned Sports and their need to drink to fully enjoy. That is what I thought too.

But after I quit boozing I discovered Sports was just an easy and readily available excuse to drink and be left alone to do so. You see, It’s acceptable for a guy to sit in front of sports and get tanked. It’s acceptable to hit the bar with the guys because the NFL game is on.

After I quit my interests expanded and most of the Sports watching became a waste of time. If you go dry you might just find that you really don’t give a sh!t about the game or your favorite team. It was the drinking you were after.

Buy a couple good books to read, running related, or not. Drink some tea instead and read. You need to take a break from the things you did when drinking to break the habit. Take melatonin about 30 minutes before bedtime to help with sleep. You won't miss the alcohol after about 10 days to 2 weeks. A month is enough time to start to recognize the positive effects of not drinking daily. Good luck

Sounds like you have yourself figured out and know what your limits are, that was actually what I was getting at - being mindful about it. Someone like you probably wouldn't benefit all that much, and that's a good thing.

The 2 beers you have may make you feel the same way that 6 makes someone else feel. If you were to drink the 2 beers every night, chances are you wouldn't realize you feel bad, it becomes your normal.

I plan on quitting drinking every single day this month, preferably before 10pm
