I don't have a dog in this fight but Mathison lost to a guy that Lex and Leo have beaten in every race this year until this one.
Like come on, we all know nike was the better meet, where he finished 4th. The 3 guys all ahead of him are in the FL west region and could only run NXN with their teams due to the overlap. Milesplit took their beef with Nike to a new level. They have been calling it "team nationals" all year to avoid saying Nike, but have said other brands for meets.
NXN is baby Nats--thats why. If Baby Nats wants more weight/respect given then they should move they're date and stop competing with what has always been the X-country national meet since 1979.
The team rankings are even worse. Feel bad for all the teams that showed up and competed well at NXN and got ranked way farther back than they finished. As usual the New York teams got hit the hardest (Corning finished 10th and is ranked 16th, Bethlehem finished 17th and is ranked 25th). Being unranked coming in and smashing “expectations” is an indictment of the ranking system, NOT the teams themselves.
He essentially faults Aaron for being on a team with Lex and Leo. "Kole Mathison has 8 wins on the season and Aaron has 1." Kole wouldn't have many, if any, if he had to run against a 13:43 5k guy every single race.
One last thing: If we're being "petty" (lol), then why would our girls POY, our girls TOY and our boys TOY all be from Nike? Hmmmm. Knuckleheads.

Anyone have any idea what the MS beef with Nike is about? If there is no beef then why do they refuse to call the meet by its real name and as someone else mentioned why don't they carry it on their indoor schedule?
Wounder if his coach had any influence in the vote. He has a pretty big web forum in Indiana ( Indiana Runner ) and probably knows some high ups with Milesplit. That's the Carmel way.
Milesplit needs to get over themselves in regards to not covering meets that they aren't associated with. In my state they never even posted NXR on the calendar much less results for the meet. They neglected to mention any kids qualifying for NXN while showering praise on Garmin or Champs runners.
Similar nonsense when milesplit neglects Penn Relays in the state that it is hosted in. If you want to consider yourself the authority for high school cross country or track and field you need to cover everything not just places that let you stream or pay you
