Nonbinary division has four competitors. All are introduced in the article, so you know who they are.

Women's open division has 20 competitors and men's open division has 89 competitors. Women's senior pro has 30 competitors, and men's senior pro has 41 competitors. There are also all kinds of junior and masters divisions for male and female. (U10 looks like unisex.)

So we are talking about some obscure category with four people among hundreds of other participants.

I agree that some people just like to complain. I up-voted your post because those people should stop before they post and ask themselves why they don't like this option. I don't mind it at all; and if it tidies up the women's division so my wife and daughters don't have to race biological men, that is huge win. I am not complaining.

I support non-binary divisions since it doesn't hurt the other established competitions at all. And please, don't talk to me about "drawing down prize money." These events have like $1000 for the national champion. Nobody is making a living off a 5th place at cyclocross nationals in any division.

That said, I think it is the best evidence that Liberals are 100% wrong about the notion of a level playing field (the non-binary division) for people of different sexes and body-types. That is just a total fantasy. Lean, strong people with perfect bio-mechanics, huge lungs, and lots of T will always do better in running and cycling than people who have less of any of those traits.

To demand parity is to deny the whole point of athletic competitions. We are looking for the best human body for each event, not the best social-emotional dreams and aspirations.

p.s. I want to tip my hat to a real rock-star of the cyclocross scene a decade ago -- Molly Cameron. I have real respect for her both as an athlete and a person. She transitioned (to female) but due to her amazing athletic ability, she knew that it would have be terrible to destroy all the women on the 'cross scene. So she continued to race in the men's division (and do well). She did things the right way and earned a lot of respect for the trans community in the process. Why can't everyone be considerate and awesome like her?

But just like "old males" (masters) these guys want their own category. I say, give it to them. At least they are not trying to get into the women's category, which I 100% oppose. I love a new "none of the above" division. It makes the real race divisions more clear to the younger generation. If this makes somebody happy, and it doesn't hurt anyone else, why not do it?

The concept of 'non-binary' is harmful in and of itself. Its basic premise relies on harmful and regressive stereotypes in order to separate people into smaller boxes. In their world, David Bowie isn't a real man and KD Lang isn't a real woman because they break traditional gender roles. Roles that need to be strictly enforced for the concept of non-binary to even work. Ask a non-binary person to really *actually* describe what they're identifying 'out' of, and (once they've been extremely vague for a while) you won't be waiting long to hear something old fashioned and sexist.

The specific post of mine you've selectively quoted a snippet from was in reply to someone who said that "the solution" to males using gender identity claims to muscle in on female sports is to create a new mixed-sex division for people with special gender identities that favors and advantages males who claim such identities and disadvantages and in some cases imperils females who also claim the same or similar identities.

The other poster I was replying to is the one who mixed up the issue of creating a new non-binary or other gender-identity based mixed-sex category in sport with the issue of male intrusion into female sport - not I. HTH.

what are you talking about? You are the one that is mixed up and is still whining when a solution to the alleged problem is already in place.

non-binary division is not a female division. 'males' winning that division, no matter how you ant to define them, is not males 'muscling in on female sports'. There is an entire separate division for females.

Seems to me that the only way it could be true that Cameron has somehow "transitioned to female" is if everyone who speaks English were to agree that word "female" is totally divorced from biological reality and now simply describes a fantasy about themselves that some blokes hold in their heads.

Also, exactly what is so admirable and deserving of "real respect" about males seizing and stealing the word meant to describe people, animals and plants of the opposite sex and arrogantly applying it to themselves as though it's their own personal property?

When men in the past went around the world engaging in this kind of grabby, entitled behavior, it was called colonialism, cultural appropriation, theft, oppression, domination, sticky-fingered acquisitiveness and avarice, and lording it over the "natives" of the territories that male interlopers had invaded, conquered and claimed as their own.

People like Rachel Mckinnon and Emily Bridges aren't fighting to compete in a non-binary division though are they? They're fighting to compete against women in the female division. Being validated as a woman is their key objective and in their view trumps the fairness and safety of female participants in sport. So presenting the introduction of a non-binary division as a 'solution' when the invading males in question are not even signing up for that division is completely disingenuous on your part. The introduction of a quasi-religious non-binary division is tokenistic, pointless and- as runragged pointed out above- in many sports dangerous, and it gives useful idiots a chance to pretend that the issues outlined above are now 'solved' when in fact it merely muddies the waters.

On the one hand, the obvious solution at least at first glance is to create a new division solely for females who take exogenous testosterone for gender identity reasons so they can compete against one another. But on the other hand, I don't see how this would not end up being challenged in court by female athletes who have been banned and sanctioned for doping violations - and by anti-doping orgs like USADA and WADA too.

Why should one group of female athletes with special gender identities be singled out and given a free pass to pump themselves full of the anabolic steroid testosterone for years on end whilst other female athletes who take anabolic steroids and other PEDs, even inadvertently and even just once or a few times, for reasons not related to gender identity get penalized for it?

Why should one group, and only one group, of female athletes to be valorized, celebrated and rewarded for using the anabolic steroid exogenous testosterone while all other female athletes are to be condemned, called cheats and punished for doing the same or similar behavior?

Yes, in this the inaugural year of the brand-new category, only 4 competitors chose to race in the nonbinary division. And all 3 winners in the new nonbinary category just so happen to be male. Funny that.

If they have an Y chromosome, then they are male, doesn't matter if they don't have a penis, balls, because men can have birth defects or be injured, or how they identify.
