My opinion is these business owners need to stop being politically motivated martyrs for a stupid cause. It's legal to refuse service to anyone. They don't have to state why they refuse service. They could could easily say, "no I don't want the job" and move on. Instead they let politics motivated them to become a martyr for a stupid cause so they say they refuse service because my religion says so.

Basically, once you put a product on the markeplace, you cannot refuse to sell it to a customer because he is black/gay/female/muslim etc..
The law does not compel you to put a certain product on the market. if you want to sell Christmas trees, you are not obliged to sell Hannukkas candles, but you cannot refuse to sell a Christmas tree to a Jew. A wedding site designer is also free to put on all his designed websites a statement like: "Same sex marriage is abomination", but he cannot deny to sell his website to a same-sex couple, if they wish one.
The plantiff is seeking to get an exception based on the nature of the business, that require some level of "creativity" that can be considered speech and is therefore protected by the First Amendment.
There are a few problems with this stance, and are explained well by the NYT article posted earlier in the thread. In particular, the law does not dictates what a business can sell, only that he cannot decide not to do business with people from a protected category. Note that a lot of business can claim that their work is "creative" (any food outlet, painting, landscaping, clothing, hairstyling etc...), so basically a ruling in favor of the plantiff will effectively make the law completely moot and we could happily go back to the good ole days when restaurants would not serve black people.
