Seeing that you were posted I was worried that I would be sick to my stomach about your being right for once about something (soccer). Was relieved to do you with a consistently bad take.
In the group stage of tournament play the end position matters, not the individual games. At least not beyond what they do for the final results. I don't care what our record is as long as we are top 2 in the group. Once you get out then matches that end in a draw go to penalties.
Make no mistake, even with the PKs the official result of the match is a draw. The 2006 WC final was a 1-1 draw that was subsequently won on penalties.

Didn't know that. That fact further cements my lack of interest in this sport. To be fair I don't care AT ALL for the way the NFL determines the winner of a tie game at the end of regulation. I'd rather they add another quarter to the game. Penalty kicks and modified-rules overtimes suck. At least in baseball, they play until someone WINS and someone LOSES. None of this kiss-your-sister tie or draw business.
