Why were white europeans able to dominate the world?

Christianity - and certainly not Catholicism - wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for Greek & Rome. Would the story of JC even exist without the Roman Empire? It all ties together.

The only reason the Roman Empire survived so long was because of Christianity. Pax Romana was a direct consequence of the growing cult of Jesus Christ. The good Lord knew that the only way this new monotheistic religion would grow is if it had a substrate to spread in. This substrate was the stability of the Roman Empire between the inception of the principate and the fall of the Nervan-Antonine Dynasty at the end of the 2nd century. Before this time, there was never a free exchange of peoples and ideas across three continents. Graves have been found in Brittania for people born in Eastern provinces such as Syria. God knew this was the only way to spread the TRUE word - to help build this so called “pagan” empire. This, in addition to secular primary sources of Jesus Christ (Tacitus and Josephus, 1st Century AD), is how I know that the good Lord and Savior is truly the light of the world. The Greece of Socrates, Plato and Pericles and the Rome of Cicero, Augustus and Marcus Aurelius could hardly be described as backwaters populated by primitive people who had no chance to build civilizations that would last.

Their civilizations live on today. We have democracies, republics, senates, consuls, tribunes and magistrates. “E Pluribus Unum” is on the Great Seal of the United States, even though Roman ships never reached America. US bank notes feature neoclassical style buildings on their reverse side.

Even the church is full of classical holdovers: Vicars were once officials subordinate to the praetorian prefects. Pastors were shepherds. Parish is from Greek and refers to a parcel of foreign land. Dioceses were originally Roman administrative districts. Then there is the concept of patron saints and guardian angels which draws heavily of the Roman polytheism with its concept of Lares, Penates and Genuis. As Christianity grew it co-opted a lot from the classical world.

False. The first Roman emperor to convert to Christianity was Constantine, who moved the capital to what is now Istanbul. That decision led to the decline of the Roman Empire. Christianity caused the Roman Empire to fall, not last.

Technology and the horse?

Hah, that’s quite the oversimplification. The majority of modern historians now disagree with that thesis, which was made by Gibbon back in the 18th century. Most now view the rapid conversion as an effect, rather than a cause, of the decline of the empire. The empire literally split into three during the Crisis of the 3rd Century, and Diocletian was forced to implement the tetrarchy and again split the empire East/West in an attempt to govern its unwieldy provinces. The Roman Empire had ceased to be a stable political entity long before the adoption of Christianity. Third century rome was a chaotic mess; the decline and fall had already begun. All of this took place before Constantine rose to power in the 4th Century. It could even be argued that Constantine actually created a brief period of stability within a system that was already collapsing.

The poster you are replying to is obviously crazy, but he’s not wrong in claiming that the stability of the empire in the first couple centuries was crucial to the spread of Christianity. His convoluted point isn’t that Christianity built the empire; rather that it is a result of it. You are getting it backwards.

You may think that. But most likely you are wrong. Do a bit of research into how many individuals who, given a REAL opportunity, chose to side with the Native Americans vs the European Americans. You might be surprised by the answer.

The truth is that nearly everyone between 1600 and 1850 who had strong connections in both worlds, chose to stay with the Native Americans rather than the Europeans. This, even while most recognized the inevitability of the downfall of the Native Americans.

I think it may have been that they were more technologically advanced, largely because they had to be to survive. Life is a little harder up north than it is in some warmer climates. You have to figure out how to survive in the winter when. Life is less enjoyable for part of the year, you can't sit around in the sunshine on the beach, so you are more productive trying to figure out how to make your life better. You can see this still today. Education levels are stronger in northern Europe than southern Europe. Even in the U.S. you can make a good argument that the northern half of the country is better educated than the southern half of the country. This doesn't mean more intelligent, this just means more focus and time is spent on education. I think this is due to having tougher winters where there's not much else to do other than work/education. You're not doing enjoyable things outside.
