On NPR Morning Edition today, they did a piece on crime as the top issue in the election this year and explaining why the NY Governor race is so tight. They interviewed several people around the NYC boroughs with several saying they were voting GOP because they want a sense order and security restored. Again, this was on NPR.
Hochul is not a progressive Democrat, but even she is having a tough fight against pro-Trump Lee Zeldin, because people really don't feel safe. The Democratic party is tarnished from exploiting the anti-police protests in 2020 and excusing a lot of bad behavior that was aimed at the law enforcement.
The following states are run entirely by Republicans and all have higher homicide rates that NY: Mississippi, Alabama, Missouri, Arkansas, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Oklahoma, Florida, Texas, Arizona, Alaska, West Virginia, Kansas, Montana, South Dakota, and Wyoming.

According to New York's many fraud "liberals" and "progressives," it's not a crime, it's the "perception of crime." No #MeToo for female victims of NYC street or subway violence, that would only fuel the "conspiracy" that crime is bad. (Though these same frauds are furious and outraged about what happened to Paul Pelosi!!)

1%. He was arrested for rape. He is going to prison for a long time.
Crime is up, but it’s also the perception of crime. Before 2020, most murders occurred in the hood. Now, crime has spilled out and normal (read - not gang member, middle class or above) people are victims of violent crime.
Back before the 1980s people with mental issues were put into "hospitals" of sort and cared for. Often the care was quite bad but they did receive care and were not set loose on the streets.

The two biggest factors to stay safe on a run are (a) light, and (b) other people being around. At 6 am, it was dark. And while it can get annoyingly busy on that path at certain times of the day, it can be quite desolate when it is dark. Both Memphis and now this happened when it was dark and unpopulated. It just gives weirdos like this guy too much of an opportunity to do evil.
As an aside, this is a big reason why they should NOT make daylight savings time permanent, or even have it go this far into the fall. If we were on standard time, it would have been light at 6 am and more people would likely have been on that path. Runners (especially women) and kids going to school need the extra hour of sun in the morning, not at the end of the day when most people are commuting home from work.

You are 100% correct, but it's too late for that. When idiots think that Biden is a far-left progressive and Trump in a god-fearing fiscal conservative, there really isn't any intelligent debate about issues that matter. I don't see any way of returning to any sense of normalcy.

Using that logic he isn't a rapist he was "experiencing unwanted sex".
Of course both are ridiculous but that is the world some people live in.
No one is excusing rape. Stop with the hyperbole - people that use terms like "experiencing homelessness" or "birthing person" and other such nonsense aren't implicitly condoning rape because they use the woke phrase of the day.
