The winters are too harsh for this distance runner in Ontario! I lived in London for three years and in Toronto for five. They are both great places to live if one is not a distance runner running year round. I moved to Los Angeles, California in 1964 and am still running year round.
I do not have the fortitude of those who run in those winters year after year.

ottawa gets waayyy to cold in the winters. the east coast is beautiful, but not the best place in canada for running. all in all i'd have to say scarborough, pickering, whitby, and bc.... all of bc
I live in Vancouver and from what I read on this thread it is one of the best places to train in Canada. Can anyone tell me where the best rubberized track in the city is? Tough question.
the new track in white rock is pretty sweet.

London is all right, but their is not enough dirt to run on and apparently the sun never shines here. but Western does have the nicest track i've ever run on. as for best canadian running city...probably somewhere out west in the mountains.

Edmonton has the most urban parkland in north america. You can do your Sunday 20 miler all on the river valley without crossing one road and without covering the same trail twice. The winters are tough, but they clear the trails, and the cold keeps you from being a wanker.

Actually, the mildest weather year round in Canada is Victoria British Columbia. There is rarely ever snow, or freezing temperatures. Sometimes at night it will freeze. So the maratime provinces are mild, but nothing on the west coast of BC. Victoria also gets much less rain than Vancouver.
Outside of weather, just ask Olympian Jon Brown who lives an trains in Victoria. The network of trails are spectacular and run in and out of the city.
Victoria also is home to Ironman world champs, Lori Bowden, Peter Reid, Olympian Bruce Deacon, Jon Brown and Simon Whitfield and many past Olympians.
Victoria is also home to the National Triathlon Training Centre and the home of National Olympic Rowing program.
Victoria is THE clear cut winner.
I highly doubt Edmonton has as much parkland in the city as Vancouver or victoria.
I lived near Ed for a couple of years and have been there several times. It is far too cold for running half the winter, unless you like have numb testicals.
-20 is very cold, but it gets down to -35 and on rare occasssion -40/1/2/3 with wind.

Most of British Columbia is warmer than the Northeast and clearly warmer than great lakes areas and mid west of the states. So if you are 'mericun, then you are 'mistakin'...Canada, doesn't have hot spots, but we do have places that are warmer, cleaner and safer than many US places.
