You'll get a lot of training books. These are all fiction, some hard to find/expensive out of print/and some of the authors on this board. OAR leads the list:
1) Once a Runner, Parker, Jr.
2) Again to Carthage, Parker, Jr.3) Racing Shadows, Dill
4) The Long Run of Myles Mayberry, Alcorn
5) Other Kingdom, Price
6) The Purple Runner, Christman
7) The River Road, Barker
8) Pain, Middleman
9) Olympian - Granville
I read a few of these. Granville's The Olympian is well worth seeking out. The prose is a little clunky, but the story captures both the thrilling and bleak aspects of training, competing and making a living as a runner in 1960s England & Europe.
