It sounds like you already have talked to your coach about training. But it also sounds like you don't understand his big picture. Maybe he has one, maybe he does not. Best thing you can do is ask him what the long term training plan is. If he can provide one, then ask if you might have some involvement in it. Don't be confrontational or condescending. He should see you are an invested athlete who wants to improve. More explanation may be required.
If you find there is no plan, ask him if you can lay out a plan for yourself and use team workouts as part of your plan where possible.
Honestly, as long as you are doing reasonable mileage, doing VO2 intervals and some steady hard runs, strides / drills that pretty well covers it. There is no magic workout formula. Just get fit and build speed and speed endurance. So don't overthink it.
Your coach is your partner in your training and you should maintain a good relationship. If that is not possible, then seek coaching elsewhere, but know that has its challenges.
