Team is top 7 in sectional, individual I'm not sure but York's top guy was the 4th individual so I'm sure he made it.
6th actually. Used the athletic net tool to eliminate teams that made it
1. 9. 10 Finn Richards 15:02.9 Lisle (Benet Academy) 2. 10. 11 Grant Giblin 15:04.8 Orland Park (Sandburg) 3. 13. 12 Quintin Lowe 15:08.0 Batavia 4. 16. 11 Hussein Almousawi 15:13.7 Bolingbrook 5. 22. 12 Trent Anderson 15:21.3 Orland Park (Sandburg) 6. 24. 12 Aidan Hill 15:22.6 Elmhurst (York)
I forgot Sandburg didn't make it either breaking their 20ish year streak too. 6th still should make it, there are only 4 sectionals and there will certainly be more that 20 individuals...I think the cutoff is 10, that would make more sense.
Yes, top 10 individuals advance to the state meet along with the top 7 teams.
But York. What a streak. 58 years in a row of qualifying for the state meet, starting in 1964 (and they were state champs in 1962 but didn't qualify in 1963 - a time when the state meet included only 15 teams from the entire state). Second longest streak in Illinois history - 20 years by Sandburg HS? (and that was broken today, too)
In the streak, 57 top 8 finishes (45 trophies) and only one higher than 8th (16th in 2016). 1st - 27 2nd - 12 3rd - 6 4th - 6 5th to 8th - 6 16th - 1
Has there ever been a year where York made state by a “miracle”?
(where they were not supposed to make state but some other team blew it at sections and York made it)
this is gonna have to happen this year if both York and Sandburg wanna make it!
1984 sectional at katherine legge sticks out for me, because i ran in that race and because of the conditions. although, in hindsight, it wasn’t really a “miracle” given how things ended that year. we were ranked 6th in the state going into sectionals and the top 5 ranked teams were all in the same sectional with us (back then only 5 teams qualified to state from each sectional). we ended up winning the meet and won our 5th consecutive state meet a week later, so that diminishes the “miracle” status i guess.
sadly, there were no miracles for this year’s team. they finished 11th yesterday.

Anyone else surprised that no one else on the team was close to Hill? Zangan was close to him at conference. If that happened again they would have made it close to qualifying. Bryk (senior) ran at regions as a sophomore with the team’s top 7 unlike Hill. So maybe he could have kept up with Hill too?
If Hill had 2 more guys finish close to him they probably would have qualified as a team
