I want the youngers on the team to run what used to formally be called an “Indian Run” (sorry if that is triggering to anyone) on Tuesday. So I need the new name asap.
Why? You probably weren't ever on intending on saying the name during the workout. Nobody else does. Just once maybe to say you are doing today. Just don't bother to give it a name when you explain it. Or just say, we used to call it an Indian Run. Does it really need a name if you feel uncomfortable? Saying we are doing "Intervals" can mean a million things, it is a just a speed day. If this a "speed day" workout, just say you are doing a speed workout, or whatever it is your purpose is that day.
You can still say "Indian Run" and teach the kids how and why that was an awesome way to run (sharing the lead and hiding your numbers).
It is 100% not offensive or meant in an offensive way. It is therefore, by definition, not offensive.
As a card-carrying member of the "Left" I am confident when I say being anti-racist was never supposed to mean we can't use definitions or cultural metaphors from the various societies around the world.
Even sitting "Indian Style" was a good thing. You are flexible and you don't need to be in a chair the whole day. It was never offensive. It describes (correctly) the way people sit in many other cultures including both North American and India.
My Asian friends are all proud of the "Asian Squat" and the Atlantic Magazine even ran an article about how healthy it is. Is that racist too?
It bothers me that Indians still use that term to describe themselves, but if anyone should be allowed, if would be them. They should use Guardians, too.
Why would it bother you? All the Indians I know call themselves Indians. What else would they be?

The appropriate translation is “cross cross applesauce” runs.

I’m part NA. I’m giving you authentic permission to use the term.
