UVA will win both a men's and women's ACC championship in the next 3 years.
How many years are we going to keep saying this? They've had a top-5 national recruiting class between men & women for 3+ years now and that got them 10th and 8th at the ACC XC meet last year. When do we finally call a spade a spade?
Yeah because Vin Lananna has never had any success coaching distance.
He's been at UVA since 2019. He inherited a good team and they have gotten worse. 7th in the ACC and 7th in the region in his 3rd year.
Coaches that have been successful in the past aren't guaranteed to be successful in the future. Nobody can deny that they have gotten worse. They are only ranked 6th in the region at the moment.
Before Vin, Jason Dunn had a more strength based approach to training with less intensity and had distance guys who could train, improve, and stay healthy with that approach. Most of those guys aren't even in the picture anymore, having quit the team, or become injured, or just haven't been developed. Since Vin came, most (all?) of the recruits are top mid D guys, not cross guys. Some are going to still be successful at cross, eventually, but there are a few guys on the team who are not mid D oriented and I'm not so sure the training is maximizing their abilities. There doesn't seem to be much emphasis on the track at UVA for 5K and 10K, but there probably are a few on the team who aren't going to help at 1500 but could help in the longer events (and cross!) if trained accordingly.

If the coach really had him stop posting on Strava, then that was a negative and potentially damaging thing to do. We shall see what happens as the season progresses.
Well so much for a polite request for information from the UVA team. You guys suck.
Really well said. Anybody who’s competed in this sport at the D1 level, superstar or not, should know there are a lot of twists in the road. And even when there aren’t twists there is a day to day of being a freshman, collaborating with a new coach, and finding the groove (from 4K to 8-10k no less). Sometimes it looks easy but that’s even deceiving. Who knows exactly what Gary Martin has in his plan with Vin and Trevor. But it’s a topic to be curious about, not judgmental. He did a pretty nice job today.
