Hurting by the 10k. 10 miles I was 30 sec fast for the most ideal conditions. Halfway I knew the dropout was coming. Just didn’t have the fitness today. Running 5-10sec too fast each mile. Blew my wad too soon. Made it to mile 15.5. Cut my losses and started my very slow jog back to hotel . About 20 miles total.
This is around my 11th marathon and first DNF. Very early on I knew I was hurting when and where I shouldn’t. I tried to hold it together. Slowed the pace. It was a no go.
I have another marathon in 4 weeks (because I’m stupid and crazy). Figured I’d save my legs in lieu of my dignity a la Rupp Boston 2018.
shame me into never bailing again.
Even Stoppit Smith made it to mile 21 before bailing out with a bad back in the 2011 San Diego rock and roll marathon. Shame on you.
Nah sometimes bailing out is right.
