So Dean K. was not attacked by a coyote but he just fell? This is not good.

I've read Dean's ultramarathon man book. It really comes across as narcissistic self-promotion. He mentioned winning a race in middle school or high school called the California Long Distance Championship. I remember searching for his name and as well as such an event and couldn't find anything.
I am sure a lot of what he says happened, but he selectively omits or exaggerates things. It is important to know that he used to work for a marketing company before he pursued running as a career. There was also this chapter about him speaking to this native American chief at Western States telling him "pain is weakness" leaving the body.
He spends a paragraph humble bragging about the company car he used to drive to some ultra. He makes some sexist jokes in the book too.

In the northeast. And I should have capitalized that I could NOT take on seven coyotes. From what I've read, coyotes in the northeast have up to 25% wolf dna, but usually less (or 0%) and, you are correct, males can be up to 50lbs.

To be clear, I think there is zero chance that I will ever need to defend myself from one, let alone two, coyotes. I also think this story is garbage.

I live in the very rural mid-West. Farming community of 4,000 and major coyote country. They are hunted here by the farmers. I have come across them many times while out on trail runs and they always run away. My scariest encounter was with a large Bobcat - but that is a tale for another day. Highly doubt that Dean's story is true - I discussed it at the local coffee spot with some of the "old codger farmers" and they roared with laughter.

My question has been this: If he was attacked by a Coyote, have him show proof of his rabies shot. If he did go to the doctor for a rabies shot, he is an IDIOT. Any intelligent human bitten by a coyote like that would go get checked out and treatment immediately.

I didn't see his IG post but I could see running at night, encountering a coyote and it lunging at you (without biting) causing someone to trip and fall, in the dark. That could lead to a cut on the face. I suppose that technically equals "being attacked by a coyote." If people then assume the cut was from the coyote biting his face, without him saying so, his account would technically be true, albeit misleading, intentionally or not.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but coyotes are just big dogs. They can breed with domestic dogs and produce fertile offspring. Coy-dogs are very popular around here as pets (rural Indiana). Not sure when coyotes became these mythical fierce creatures.

Hey dish-t, YOU are the invasive species. You know that right? If you are freaked out by a coyote being nearby YOU are the problem.

The coyotes are small where I live. They're like little Chihuahuas.

I live in the desert and I hear the high pitched squeals of the coyotes in the adjacent hills when the weather cools down. I’ve run all hours of the day through rugged desert mountains and see coyotes constantly. Even packs. They watch out of curiosity, especially if I have a headlamp on. They always scurry away. Sometimes they stare for a moment, but they never attempt to chase me or anything. He’s full of crap. No way. See them mostly at 3 am as they’re coming into the neighborhood hunting the yappy dogs. They are easily frightened, like the Sand People.

You know that Humans were in Stanley park centuries before coyotes right? They are recent arrivals. How do out yourself as an idiot. Idiot.

I run in San Francisco every morning at 5am. Coyotes started appearing on city streets when the city quieted during the pandemic. I see one every couple of days and each time it scurries out of the way to avoid interaction with me. I cannot believe this story.

Why are people reluctant to believe that a coyote approached and even went after the bar? At 3 in the morning in the middle of a long run like that, it wouldn't take much to knock a person over.

Wildlife specialists are so quick to cast doubt on this assault allegation. I guess coyotes will be coyotes and we should just ignore that sometimes they can be a threat to people.
