People find a deep symbolic meaning because they are obviously moved in someway by the music and lyrics... what the f*** do you think music is for? How can you sit there and say that people aren't moved? Just because you think he blows, doesn't mean that's a written law. He's not brainwashing people, he's just doing something right. They're putting out quality music that the majority of people who listen to it, enjoy it. Maynard is disgustingly talented in my opinion and I don't think there is a better singer/songwriter in the rock industry. At least he's not out there flaunting his shit at every concert or in every music video like some self-absorbed rapper or shitty rock star (see Scott Stapp).

If you have ever been to a tool concert, the argument that tool would be greatly improved by the lack of Maynard, becomes very strong indeed..

Danny, Justin, Adam are very good at what they do and dont fell the need to flaunt fake breasts or whatever ...for "shock value"....

Personaly i would take the concise but, deep cutting social comentary of Roger Waters, over maynards weird vagueness anyday.

oh yeah...also i hate anythings that become inthralled with "love" or "spirtaulity" or metaphyisics"...will live in reality ...deal with it.

you know whats a load of crap? those 2 dvds they're releasing with one music video on them, each. tool is a good band, but they piss me off.

i feel sorry for the fool who shelled out 100 bucks for one of those signed vinyls. or is planning on buying the dvds.

People typically either love Tool or hate them if they've heard them. Usually the sign of a good band. I also find that people bash Tool and Maynard precisely because people are so enthralled by them. I would almost guarantee that if Tool didn't have oodles of adoring fans, no one would bash Tool and would give them more credit for their mastery. And saying that Maynard can't sing is RIDICULOUS. If you don't like him, fine. But holy shit it's obvious that the guy can sing. I find that most people who are actually music majors, songwriters, professionals, etc really respect all members of Tool for their contributions to creative music. Most people who suck at playing instruments, singing, or songwriting have a real problem with Tool.

And if we are gonna talk about overrated muscians, BB King is up there.

I dont care for Tool, meaning I like like it, but wouldnt miss it if it were gone. But for anyone to come on here and bash them is stupid. No Talent, Bad Singing??? WTF are you talking about. This is all like football, people that like one sports team always seem to hate another. I.E. Michigan fans will hate on Hawk and OSU, bashing him for anything they can, and knocking OSU football at any little thing they can find wrong, but in reality they miss the point that Hawk is f***ing sweet at football, and instead of looking for the negatives in OSU football, they miss the overwelming positives of the program, and Vis Versa for OSU fans, or any fan of anything. Sometimes you have to get away from the bubble you live in and realize what you like, what you percieve as good, what your opinions are, are not the same as everyone elses are. In fact, what you would probobly come to realize is that you are the minority, and the only reason you hadnt come to realize it earlier, is because you couldnt hear it being screemed at you over the sound of your own voice.

What people really need to do is SHUT THIER MOUTHS AND OPEN THIER EARS.

When you do that, then you can realize how insainly close minded you really are, all music is good, to someone, and obviously since Tool is as popular as they are, the must be good to alot of people.

Pres. Bush was and is popular. Does that make him a good president. Coke sells more that Dr.Pepper does that make it better. Speilberg made higher-grossing films than Kubrick does that make him a better director. Okay he is not a bad singer. He is NOT a singer. He is a screamer. I DONT HATE TOOL. I have listened to all of it. I like some of it. Some of their songs have great parts to them. I know tool/apc fans realize this

Tool is the real deal. Even if someone doesn't like them, their talent can't be denied. I could understand someone not liking them because of their sound, 7+ min songs. That's cool, but if you're not listening to bands like Tool and Isis, then what metal are you listening to?

Well I can understand why some people don't care for Tool's sound. But I simply cannot understand why someone would say that Maynard cannot sing. His tone is so smooth and his pitch is ALWAYS dead-on, even in concert. He rarely screams. In fact, I find that most of his vocal parts are quite soft. So if you are still out there Chuck, please give me a little more detail about why you think Mayard cannot sing and you consider him a screamer. Like I said, I percieve most of his vocal parts as being fairly soft and melodic.

I like Tool's stuff a lot and I'm over 40!!! (dont' worry, I know that dones't make me cool).

But I also like a lot of stuff from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and today. Besides the fact that they're heavy and intense, I like Tool because their song structures are a lot more creative than a lot of bands out there. Kind of a Pink Floyd for this era.

I don't worship any bands though. A lot of them are pretty screwed up people, personally, but I like to jam to their music.

Almost everythign I've liked over the years I continue to like with the exception of hair metal. Twenty years ago, I was a big Van Halen/Def Leppard/Whitesnake type fan, and now I think most of their stuff is lame.
