Yes I care. Like I said, all teams do them and I care about vollege running. I have 2 kids competing at good programs. But you seem to think it is special. I assume that their media grad student put it on the schedule.
Top 5 are pretty much locks to make the team. As for spots 6 and 7 I believe Quarzo is an underrated runner who has steadily continued to improve and is definitely a contender (she ran 10k at nationals beating Allie Hays who was xc top 3 in the prelim).
I agree that Quarzo is a promising runner, though she didn't beat Allie at nationals. Allie was 5th, Gionna 16th.
I saw a post on NC states instagram last week of the women's team during the workout. The first group had Tuohy, Bush, Seymour, Starliper and Shaw. Then there was another group of some other contenders for top 7, but i noticed Chmiel was absent completely. Hope she is healthy! If so they will likely have 2 in the top 5 and 3 in the top 10.

I noticed that those pictures too from that particular day, where Chmiel was not in that one "top" group. But she's definitely practicing with the team. I've seen other photos and videos from previous days of her running with the team. Maybe she wasn't there at practice that one day. Or maybe for whatever reason, they put her in another group on that particular day or held her out of those particular reps. Worst case scenario, maybe the case is that she's fully healthy, but a little behind the ones in the top group as she's a little behind the others as far as her fitness, as she may be just recently getting back to training. But if she's healthy enough to run/practice, I feel pretty confident that she's recovering from her injury and will be back to peak form relatively soon.

no wait, we are guessing the scrimmage line up based on their workout photos? um marlee starliper ran together with the freshmen group so shes not part of the top/first group ?
btw heres kelsey chmiel running with the team, at the back with sam bush and katelyn tuohy
I would take a page from the NFL preseason and sit out Tuohy and Chmiel. They might get too competitive. There's nothing to be gained putting them out there. The others are fighting for their spot so have at it.

chmiel has to race because she haven't raced for quite awhile

NC State's depth will be tested this year. Chmiel is still dealing with a foot issue. They are basically trying to manage it for the season and avoid surgery. I would not be surprised if she does not race until Nationals if they feel she can contribute.
What is the source of your information? Do you know people within the program?

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about...

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. My record speaks for itself.
She's slowly coming back from a foot injury. Will not run at ACC's and most likely not at regionals. Better to have her completely healthy by the Fall than to bring her back too soon.
He/she was 100% correct about this. NC State didn’t reveal this info.
Tuffy has also revealed other info about NC State that only insiders would know.
Maybe Chmiel is still not at 100%. But she was photographed and on video running with the team about a week ago, on posts on the official NC State social media. If the injury was that serious then she certainly wouldn’t be out there running right now.
Say, hypothetically, she’s at 90% now. Sure, ease her back into it to not risk re-injury, and maybe don’t have her race until October or November.
If I were their coach, I'd like to see them run as hard as possible and stay in one or at most two groups. some would be running a bit harder than others, some a bit easier. But on 9/1 I would see NO reason for an all- out gut busting effort.
Tuffy may be right on Kelsey's foot, but is far off the mark if they think NC State's depth will be tested this year.
I think it will. Loss of Steelman and Hays pretty much replaced with Starliper and Seymour. But if Chmiel loses 30-40 places due to less fitness coming off the injury that would be a big blow unless someone else took a big step up toward where Bush was last year. NM seems to be a very good squad (assuming they are healthy). Alabama, if Tynismaa is healthy has a very strong 1-3 and looks much stronger at 4-5 this year than last year.

I think that's underestimating the additions of Gionna Quarzo (15:56/33:24) who was All American over 10k on the track last spring (made a HUGE jump in spring), Mariah Howlett (33:40) who qualified for NCAA regionals in the 5k and 10k and was 4th in ACC 10k, Hannah Gapes (4:26/16:45) who was the New Zealand U20 XC champion, and Brooke Rauber (redshirted last year, but 3x NXN top 10, US and PanAm XC champion in 2020).
Add these 4 ladies to: Tuohy, Bush, Seymour, Shaw, Starliper, and a 80% Chmiel and I'm not sure depth is an issue. Maybe it is... guess time will tell.
