Another data point for you. I am 33, 35 minutes for 10k, 1 hour 17 half marathon. I always run less than 50km a week. But I do a lot of cross training (mainly swimming, cycling) and the occasional triathlon. I think that helps maintain base fitness and without it I might have to up the mileage.
Hi, it´s perfectly possible. I train a friend ( 38 y/o), he have a PB 1,17 in Half Marathon. He is agronomist, work Monday to Half Saturday
An example of his base train weeks is:
Monday 8 km tempo (3,55 a 4,00 /km) or 30´Fartlek 2´ active x 1´soft or 8 km Progressive to 4,30 to 3,50/km. 2 km Light warm up previous. This works rotates weekly.
Tuesday Gym (Squats, Up to the bank, Calfs or DaedLift, Reverse Lunge + Uper body in the rest, with lights weights + Easy jumps and runs to end) .
Wednesday 14 km 4.30/km or 145 ppm
Thrusday REST
Friday 2km Warm Up. Short Hills (150-200m) (3,30/km) x 10 - 12 or 4-5 x Circuit in the Park (1200m) (3,40/km)
Saturday 18- 22 km 4.30/km or 145ppm
Sunday REST
Total Week: Max 54 km (or 34 miles)
I hope it serves as a reference.
Regards from Chile
Yeah....depends on your talent level.
It is possible if you are talented enough; plenty of people break 80 on 40 mpw, but your 10K time has to drop by at least a full minute for this to happen on 40 mpw. If 37 min is the absolute best you can run for 10K, 80 is not going to happen.
prolly , if u pace right , brah.
My one 1/2 marathon was 1:17 on 40-50 mpw average. While I had several 15-18 mile Sunday runs in previously, in the last 3 months before I don't think I went over 10, although I did 10 fairly regularly.
