Not really a gap, the female hurdles are pretty short, and any tall woman would barely notice the hurdle. Still, we should not take away from Sydney, she is not the only tall woman in 400H.

Yeah, let's see what would happen if an American woman did what Gidey did.
Gidey has a 5k WR, 10k WR and HM WR.
She is probably the best female runner in the world.
If she was American, movies would be made about those achievements.
Sydney is amazing too but Gidey doesn't get enough credit.
Yep, they made a movie about a mediocre runner like Prefontaine and have named a meet and a trail after him. I can't imagine what they would do for Gidey.
An important thing to consider, as another poster mentioned, is how the times compare to the men.
The further you go up in distance, the larger the gap between men and women. Gidey running 62:52 is near the time that many of our top American men had as their half-marathon PR (Matt Tegenkamp, Andrew Bumbalough, etc.). That on it’s own seems unthinkable, based on the logic of how we perceive time in a distance event, with male vs female times.
Here’s a significant question:
How much time difference does 6 inches per hurdle make for the 400 hurdles? 1 second difference? More? Because McLaughlin’s time is faster than a number of MEN ran in the SEMIS at US Champs) !!

Gidey also drafted behind men for the entire race - similar to the sub-2 set up. Half marathons are so variable in terms of the course, tailwinds, etc. The shoes make a much bigger difference for a half marathon than a 400h.
For Syd, a 400h is a 400h - a track is a track. No men pacing her, she was alone the entire time. Syd also had to run 2 rounds before this race, so she wasn't fresh.
I'm sorry but if you think Gidey's performance is more impressive then you are an idiot. Half marathon isn't even a real event.
both times more flo-jo esque........or marita koch esque........which is not a compliment.
If more elite female 200m athletes decide they want to master 400m, Marita Koch's 400m record will be possibly equaled. There have been 27 other F.A.T. wind legal sub-21.90 200m women. I understand why most do not want to focus their training on obtaining a sub-48 400m. When that changes, when more F.A.T. sub-21.90 200m women focus on 400m, we will see more sub-48 400m efforts.
