Damn lol, I agree. Mad respect for these classy Jamaican ladies. They really know how to carry themselves. This needs to stay up as a Sherika appreciation thread.
Fr, there's a BBC interview with Dina where SAFP joined and she was just so sweet and friendly the entire time. Shouting out the whole competition, pleased with silver, lovely to Dina.
I have a lot of respect for the way SAFP handles herself. She comes across as very courteous and respectful of the competition. I think she has a great personality for track and field. I also liked the feature on Elaine. Dina is very articulate as well. There have been some terrible interviews so it's good to see some great ones!!
Of course FloJo was clean. So was Marita Koch, Jarmila Kratochvilova, Marion Jones, Ben Johnson, Justn Gatlin, Asafa Powell, Elvan Abeylegesse, Mariya Savinova, Antonio Pettigrew, Jerome Young, ... and all the rest. Nobody has ever used drugs at the Olympic level.
Way to go, Gault. I wish other journalists would have the guts to ask questions like that. Just sweeping the issue under the rug does not make it go away. It needs to be discussed openly. I didn't suspect Jackson of doping before but I do now.
Well it may not have been a polite question, but nevertheless I guarantee this is what people are thinking. It is pretty much acknowledged that Flojo was doping to the gills. It is incredibly naive to think that another athlete can approach or exceed her record without being similarly doped up. Even where an athlete never tests positive that we know of, the ability to match or beat other doping athletes is a clear indication of doping.
And let's be blunt. The Jamaican team is doped to the gills and has been for years. It is one thing if it produced a couple of supposed "freak athletes" like Bolt (although thinking he was clean is equally naive; look at how many of his main competitors were caught). But we are supposed to believe that a nation with about 2.5 million people can produce multiple gold medal caliber sprinters year after year, that it can naturally sweep the 100 and almost sweep the 200, etc? I mean, please. Of course Jamaica is not alone. Look how many US sprinters have been caught. In my mind anyone who wins the 100 or 200 has to be a prime doping suspect because no one is winning it clean anymore. But the Flojo example shows the difference between having the full doping green light and having at least some semblance of a functional anti-doping agency.
She shut that down like *BAM* New respect for her.

Agree. The way she shut that down was indeed very classy.
“Is that not the world record?”
Wasn’t very familiar with this Jamaican sprinter but am now a big fan.
The Jamaican ladies don’t do drama. Last year, someone asked ETH in a post-race interview what she thought of Shacarri (after her last place finish) and she just said “no comment”.
She’s also in the USA and doesn’t want to start some controversy for no reason. Flo Jo is an icon to many people. Thought it was a bad line of questioning. If it was the 100 and you wanted to get into the wind gauge that’s one thing.
No one will sit down and talk to LRC while they flock to the Citius house for their live show. While they are not perfect, I am enjoying what Chavez and Merber are doing because it is a celebration of the sport and we really need that now. They even call themselves the “Today Show” of track. It’s fun and refreshing compared to the LRC daily show full of ludicrous hot takes from Rojo while Gault and Weldon try to talk him down.
I appreciate good journalism but LRC is just becoming horribly cynical while looking both old and tired. There is a way to get at truth but “gotcha” questions in the mixed zone is not the way. You guys look like jerks and further cement your poor reputation, especially with women athletes. Good luck getting an actual long form interview with anyone based on this nonsense. The athletes, their agents, and the power brokers of this sport know who you are.
I’m new to this MB and I’m baffled by the venom directed towards this website
New here huh? Stick around a while and see what a vile place this really is. And much of the blame goes to the owners who will say and tolerate anything for click.
This is as all about the “tough” question being posed and not the answer.
There was no way she was going to say that she thought she was the real record holder. She politely gave a condescending answer, disapproving of an unprofessional question.
