Never felt that in the northeast US, but I also happen to live and run in a very running-friendly city.
Unrelated to your post, I never feel the ego urge to speed up to overtake a girl running faster than me. I truly can’t relate to making my training suboptimal in the hopes of I don’t even know what exactly… that she’d be impressed by my briefly whizzing past her enough to slip her phone number into my pocket?
Don‘t think you read the post. I thought the same thing reading the title, but this dude is worried if he casually passes she‘ll think he‘s a creeper.
I don‘t personally “blast past,” but can tell sometimes girls get a little anxious if they here a guy coming up behind them. I try to give as much lateral room as possible in those cases.
I read OP’s post just fine. I don’t think you read my post carefully enough though.
It's awkward if you, as a poster suggested above, adjust your pace to follow, or race a woman simply because she's a she. Otherwise, I don't see why a blast-past is necessary. If she was inclined to worry about a random man running by, she wouldn't (or shouldn't) be out on the trail on her own.
One thing im weak for is if a woman overtakes me. If a woman overtakes me, i immediately up my pace and race her.
That's really pathetic if true. I am sure there are lots of pro women who could demolish you on a training run or race. To worry about something like this, especially on a training run is just pitiful.

I'm not your average runner, i race 800m and 1500m professionaly, in those distances only elite men can beat me and not a single women in history of athletics has ever ran a faster 800m and 1500m than me. I agree with you that women can beat me in other distances in which i dont compete in, i actually myself said that i lost a training run to a marathon woman who whopped my ass.
Instead of maintaining your pace and ending up running behind them? With the way things are especially in the UK I feel uncomfortable running behind or even near female runners because I can tell they get worried, especially if it's on quiet trail. Awkward situation but I find the best thing to do is blast past them and get out of the situation as quickly as possible.
Oh is that what they're doing! I take this as a challenge and speed up and try to beat them. Have had a few extremely high tempo training runs due to this. Usually these guys are not that fast. I run around 19 minutes for 5k, hoping to break 19 soon. Faster runners glide past you without a battle being necessary but are unusual.
I dont acknowledge other runners while I'm running either.

Most people read what you wrote just fine, we just don't understand why you felt the need to randomly brag about not wanting to try to show-off in front of random female joggers...when nobody brought that up in the first place.
And then proceeding to make a dorky joke, poking fun at the hypothetical guys who do this.

I suggest you follow your own advice of shutting up if you expect that of other people on an open forum.
You also seem English deficient because you don’t seem to realize that the other posts were condescendingly pointing out I missed OP’s point when that was clearly the first thing I addressed. I understand reading comprehension doesn’t come easy to some folks, so my sympathies.

I like women like you who challenge us. Men already challenge us but when women do it its so attractive and respectable at least to me.
One day the rain was pouring but i don't skip training days unless im injured and i headed to the track.
Empty track, only me and pouring rain, or so i thought.
There was a woman running in a pouring rain.
I felt big respect for her as we ran almost 15 laps together, albeit i lapped her 2 times but even still i think she was exhausted because she already was running when i came there.

I should add also that you must be particularly reading comprehension challenged if you think those guys are “hypothetical” when there are guys admitting to it in this very thread. Sounds like you might be one them and I hurt your little ego.
You need to stop being so creepy. Women runners are “worried” about you for a reason. They usually smile at me and do not appear worried, I guess because I don’t look like a rapist or stalker in their eyes.
Seriously. The odds of you finding a woman running at your pace and you showing up so you are like 5-10s behind her are about zero. You either rub your normal pace and pass them quickly or they pull away. Unless you intentionally do some creepy behavior
I think by the time your done rubbing at your normal pace, they'll be way ahead of you and calling the cops.

hahaha you can pretend that my "little ego" was hurt all you want bud, but that doesn't change the fact that you humble-bragged about not wanting to impress random runner girls, and then made a corny joke making fun of, again, hypothetical guys that sprint past girls to show off. All of this from completely out of nowhere because you brought this topic up out of the blue.
And THEN, you sat there waiting for people to incorrectly call you out on misunderstanding the original post, so you could throw around the corny insult that people are "English deficient" or "missed the English" in your post.
Finally, there isn't anyone admitting to it "in this very thread". There's one guy who mentioned that he can't stand when WOMEN overtake HIM, so he tries to get them back. The very first thing he says in that post is that he doesn't blaze past them. There's a difference between trying to race a girl who already passed you because it bothered you, and sprinting past a slow one to impress them. Guess you're the one who can't comprehend, you imbecile.
A couple of you have missed the point of the OP. It's not about showing how fast you are, it's about getting out of an awkward situation asap before she thinks you're a rapist etc.
You can run circles around them on an indoor track where they have exercise classes on the infield. Why blast pass them one at a time, especially if it's awkward?
Female here. I live in a very safe area and am married in my mid-thirties.
I am a faster than average female runner (1:18 half, 2:47 full) so I tend to be the one passing men. I usually give a wave or say hi. I actually enjoy when runners are friendly to one another and am completely fine with men saying hello in return. Or making a funny comment about me passing them.
Usually when I see younger faster guys out that fly by me they don’t say anything. I’ve never been nervous when they pass - it’s easy to see they are just good runners out doing their thing.
BUT - I have been in the situation you described once. I noticed a man as I was making a turn and then we was still there a few turns later in my neighborhood- maybe 1-1.5 miles. It did make me nervous so I crossed the street to stop and got my phone out. He ran by with a wave and hello. Turns out he is just a man that runs similar paces to me and we met at the same spot that day. I’ve seen him several times since. I’d say, I think I’d prefer a man to just speed up for a bit and pass me. Yell out that they are coming by or give as wide as berth as possible. I imagine a younger woman would feel even more vulnerable. I have sons now and feel bad that they will have to worry about this type of thing, but it’s just how it is now.
Good idea, you probably make women weary in normal situations let alone running in your knee length shorts and wife beater tank. You rock the complete dateline nbc vibe for sure.

What kind of a professional 800m and 1500m runner would ever try to “race” a woman on a training run? The odds of being passed by a woman would be fairly low but you make it sound like it is not that rare for you as you race them you claim. Secondly, how the hell could you lose? This is not believable on so many levels. You are lying about something and it certainly is pathetic. If you race 1500m as a professional you should be able to run 30 minutes or faster for 10000m? This is all very bizarre.
Hmm if a guy is running behind me, I never think rapist. Usually I run during the day -- maybe that's why. What usually happens is they pass, then slow down, and then I pass again, or they stop. No, I'm not fast but this happens and it's really just better if you stay behind.
