And Tuohy is really not that fast anyway so she isn't living up the Irish name.
If going undefeated for 3 years and owning 4 national high school records, 1 U20 record, and being a 2x NCAA Champion, with 15:14 and 4:06 PRs at 20 ain't fast then I don't know what is.
But she had to eat lots of burritos for it. Shelby was never a good XC runner, only Shalane has Sonia's ability, and perhaps Katelyn as she is on the right path.
she'd be of partial irish descent, but then,so am i.that doesnt mean im irish.
OP never said she was Irish - said she had "Irish blood." Why can't people actually read the OP on LetsRun and not misrepresent what they say? Oh, never mind...Would not have unleashed so much trolling.
You don't know what fast is? Wow. More than 500 women have run faster than Tuohy and Tuohy would be about 1 lap behind the best of all-time. And some of those women were running 14:30 at Tuohy's age.
Amazed by the number of amazing distance runners originating from such a small country! Irish distance runner Sonia O'Sullivan, who won 16 medals at the world stage, is one of the greatest if not the greatest female distance runner of all time.
Katelyn Tuohy from what I heard also has Irish blood? If yes, then that quite explains her tremendous running prowess. They are born to run.
That"s 2. That is not a number to be Amazed by. One is likely not 100% Irish either since here in America we all become mutts after a generation or 2.
Jamaica has about half the population of Ireland and let's compare their T&F medals to Ireland.

Idk what this dude read? The OP never said Tuohy was the best ever, so why is he so defensive? Are you afraid of what lies ahead Katelyn's future? Anyways, I can't name any American who ran 15:14 4:06 at age 20 nor 15:37 at age 15 and 4:33 mile at 16. She is fast. Who cares if Katelyn's gonna get lapped at 20 by Ehtiopians and Jamaicans? America's best pro runners gets lapped at 26, so?? LOL
Caucasian people, esp from the Midwest, are always pretending their more exotic then they are. I'm "Irish," "Swedish," etc. Nah, you're American, which is a perfectly fine thing to be.
Are you for real? Non-WASP white Americans nationwide have always kept some affinity for the country (or countries) their ancestors came from.
It is the opposite of trying be exotic. It is more about remembering that your relatives at one time came here with nothing.
What the hell is wrong with you Americans and your incessant hyphenating of your identity. The athlete was not born in Ireland. She was born in America to American born parents. She's American.
Tuohy is an Irish name, like Flanagan. Go though the list of top U.S. runners and you will see we really are a melting pot.
Shelby Houlihan and Clayton Murphy too.
Two distinctly Irish surnames.
Yeah and lest we forget that Irish dunk master Shaquille O'Neal! Clearly that Irish blood helped him dominate the NBA for over a decade. Nothing says "top 'o the morning" more than ripping down a backboard or making blanket generalizations based on a name...
Meanwhile no love for fellow young up and comer Roisin Willis who is an actual first generation Irish-American whose mother was an Irish Olympian and a teammate and contemporary of Sonia O'Sullivan? Is it because she married a Willis and Roisin didnt inherit her mothers family name of Dennehy? Another reason its silly to identify ethnicities only by surname.
There are no age groups. And comparing her only to Americans is typical. She is fast for the NCAA. She is not fast as compared to top Americans. We saw it 2 weeks ago. She is definitely not fast on a world level.
