Does Singlet Color Affect Race Performance?

I suggest white short sleeved shirts to give it a Chariots of Fire vibe.

Ummm men can wear crops if they want.

Red Puma tanktop is the only answer.

Yellow shows up very well in crowded photos/video.

Black not great in hot weather. Even NZ has gone for team white vests at hot weather locations, national color is all black.

Which studies? Do you mind posting one, or maybe a short extract?

It’s a basic law of thermodynamics that black (and all darker colours) attracts and absorbs more heat than lighter colours.

To quote Scienceline “…black absorbs the most heat. A black object absorbs all wavelengths of light and reflects none. Objects that are white, on the other hand, reflect all wavelengths of light and therefore absorb the least heat.”

Why do you think solar panels are black? Why do you think black clothing dries faster on a clothesline than whites?

P.S. I’ve seen people pointing to the success of NZers as some sort of proof that black doesn’t decrease performance.
That may be valid, if their success were in events that were dramatically affected by heat. Unless it’s unbearably hot and humid, the result of a mile or 1500m race is not going to be drastically affected by the heat.
I haven’t seen NZers have the same success in events such as the Marathon or even the 10,000m, despite having the most appropriate training for such events throughout the 60s and early 70s.

White is the generally accepted color in case of surrender. For me as a 50+ runner, the preferred choice for all workouts in sweltering summer heat.

That's not a part of any of the 4 laws of thermodynamics. Not saying it's untrue, but it's not covered by the laws of thermodynamics. People look silly when they try to be smart but are not.

Choose the color that fits your people the best. Keep a chart of what colors they wear each day, what color are their cars, what color they painted their house, etc. Then run an analysis of state champions from your state and the colors of their jerseys. Blow up different colored balloons and see what ones they choose ... now you are getting close to making your decision.

In politics, the best colors to use are red and grey, altho campaigns and candidates certainly chose other colors.

Are you buying your singlets at Wal-Mart? We've worked with Schoeller, as have most Tour de France kit manufacturers, endurance sports brands, etc., so you can wear any color you want. All the research is on their website. Watch the Tour this weekend and watch teams win in Black and watch Tiger in is prime win in Dark Red.. oh, and perhaps my dark skin in marathons, etc., perhaps a negative for Kipchoge?

All red uniforms sure intimidated opponents of the Cleveland baseball team in the '70's!

I could’ve worded it better (and explained how black is better at converting light energy into heat energy) but it is covered by the first law.

The existence of this technology proves my point. Why would you need a technology (ironically called coldblack) to overcome the effects of heat on darker materials, if darker materials didn’t heat up more than lighter ones?
