Definitley...Flatt already had the physique of a man when he was in middle school. Genetics helped him get to where he is but genetics will also be a limiting factor. Sumner is a blue blood. His mom was a 2:00 800 runner and his dad was just a bit faster than Will is now in the 800 and he was a 3:59 mile runner. Will already has more raw speed than both of them did.

His warm-ups are 300m. He doesn’t count them. He runs five days a week. That’s a mile of speed work a day. He’s a sprinter. It’s possible but he’s likely stretching the truth to a degree. Maybe it’s closer to ten miles. Maybe not. Why does it matter whether he runs five or ten miles a week? It’s ridiculously low either way. The difference doesn’t matter as much as people think.

How is he running nationals when he hasn't met the 1:46.25 qualifying standard?

You don't need mileage to excel in the 800.

I think it's closer to 25 miles. This 5 mile stuff is just a load.

Peter Snell was a 22" 200 runner.

After training Lydiard waybhe won 3 Olympics gold.

You may not need high mileage to run fast with today's training.

But to survive 3 rounds or 6 rounds for Snell double in 64

5 or 10 miles will not cut it.

The bragging about low mileage is as old as running goes

And being a fast high schooler is no guarantee for a career.

But as my firs coach said, what matters is not what you do at 18.

BTW his daughter is Olympic silver in individual biathlon and gold with her team.

If he simply warmed up a 1/2 mile and cooled down a 1/2 mile 5 days per week that would be 5 miles per week.

Personally do I think he is talented enough to break Granvilles record yes I do. Do I want him to break Granvilles record no I don't. Granville was a solid humble guy Cade is a cocky prick.

Funniest scenario would be Flatt breaking the record at NBN and then Sumner breaks it a few hours later in the Oregon race.

They fill out the field of 32. He has the 18th best time.

32 can qualify and there are 3 rounds. If Flatt had the 33rd fatest time and all 32 ahead of him declared and decided to run, he would not have.
