She looks pretty good to me. I don't remember her being this big last year. It's like she's put on more strength and seems to have a better start than last year (although haven't seen the elite closing speed come through yet).
She did well, shes been getting better every race. Shes making the 100m team for sure, the 200m team is another question with the talent loaded up in the US. Thomas, Brown, Battle, Steiner, Felix will all have something to say about that. Wish some of that talent would brush off on the 400m runners.
I actually think her 200m was good in the circumstances too. Come the Trials and she will be in the top 3 in the 100m for sure. The 200m is the question.
Sha’Carri could be top 3 in the 200 but the USATF if it were not coming up so soon. Gabby Thomas and Abby Steiner are the top 2 Americans in the 200 right now. I wouldn’t be surprised with either of them winning the USATF meet. After those two it’s Brittany Brown, and probably Anavia Battle or Jenna Prandini. Battle & Prandini are not at top form yet but I expect them to be better in a few weeks. Richardson could probably surpass Battle & Prandini and possibly Brown but she will not get to the level of Thomas or Steiner- not within a few weeks anyway. I honestly don’t see Richardson running the 200 at the USATF.
Im not sure why shes being written off as having a chance to win Worlds.
The main reason she has an outside chance is that I think Elaine Thompson has declined slightly from age/injury. I think the winning time could be between 10.7-10.6.
Richardson, with her steady improvement, could conceivably be close to that.
She could definitely be in running for 2nd/3rd, but I just dont think shes a “no chance” for gold, based on what Ive seen

Everybody decent has a shot at gold, with injuries, rounds, time left until WC's, etc.
I agree that ETH isn't at the top of her game this year, but there are a few who are solidly ahead of SCR at the moment, most notably the Jamaicans. Amazingly, SCR has a real shot to win the 100m at nationals, if she can block out noise and focus on her race. I do think she has a decent shot to make the individual event.
It's still too early to get a really good read on things. One thing I would be confident in predicting would be that SAFP will figure in the medals, and will be ready to race during WC's--other than that, I am confident in nothing, including SCR, notwithstanding her continued improvement.
I think she was inferior to Hobbs, who is 2-0 against her so far this year. However she should make the 100m team comfortably.
I also think the 200m is not for her whatsoever. Thomas, Steiner and Brown/Prandini will make that team.
I think Richardson could conceivably win a minor medal, but it is unlikely. I think she has a .01% chance of gold - SAFP will be near impossible to beat this year.
You never know with sprinters where they are as far as their progression towards a national championships and WC or Olympics. Some just come out, race after race, and hit the same times. Others are able to race well but peak just at the right time. No way really to know whether this is the best SCR has or whether she can take it to a whole . . . notha . . . leva at USATF and Worlds.
ETH is clearly the presumptive winner at WCs. ETH is the best out there when it comes to peaking at the right time and will probably be in 10.6 or better form by WCs. It is a lot to ask of SCR to be able to beat ETH in her first WCs, especially if it requires SCR to go under 10.7.
The swarm of little girls waiting for her after the meet and screaming for her shows that, like it or not, SCR brings people into the sport.
The execution leaves something to be desired, but the idea of making the uniforms an event isn’t a bad one. In gymnastics, people are more excited for the leotards than the gymnastics half the time. Everyone waits to see the designs for the Olympics/Worlds, or what’s going to be unveiled at NCAA nationals. NCAA teams wear about 8 new leotards a season now and it brings tons of interest, posts, leotard polls, etc. UCLA gymnastics is the most followed women’s team in any sport on social media and they’ve done a lot with themed leotards, having the gymnasts design their own, etc. I liked the idea of adding some sparkle to the suit - something gymnastics loves. They’re only running for a few seconds, might as well make the thing a fashion show and bring some excitement. She just needs to either learn to sew better or get better designs. But it’s a smart idea that tons of girls and women are interested in, what her next look will be. You want a popular sport then complain at the things that make sport popular.
She won the Diamond League in Rome in 21.98 last month, and also ran a wind-assisted (+3.1) 21.69 in Austin in March...
She's the 5th fastest in the world this year behind 2 NCAA runners who have been racing all year (Steiner and Ofili), Jackson who ran 21.91 in a loaded DL in Rome where Thomas didn't race (Thomas also happened to beat Jackson in Doha), and Mboma, who is the obvious favorite for Worlds unless her recent thigh injury happens to be serious and/or WA unexpectedly change their DSD regulations before the meet.
I'm guessing her niggle isn't that serious. She can definitely win Gold in the 200m this year at Worlds so it would suck if she wasn't healthy

Referring to Gabby Thomas here and not SCR, of course

Sha'Carri ran well considering her parachute, heavy weave and spider eye lashes. Even better when you consider she had a poor start.

Hobbs looked very fluid. He had an excellent start and he held the distance well, it even looked like he intentionally took his foot off the gas in the last few meters.
Yes all true. Spider eyelashes can't be aero. I'm confused, is Hobbs transgender? Sometimes they are referred to as She and Sometimes He.
