From the youtube video, sounds like she had an operation a few years ago for a possible tumor re-emerging. Sucks that this may be a constant battle for her.

Just my observation from anecdotes around me, but the kids I know who survived childhood cancer all grew up to have remarkable accomplishments as teenagers, including one who was hired as a senior software engineer before his 18th birthday (he was working full-time as a regular developer while doing homeschooling at age 14) . Seems that they develop incredible mental toughness.

She sounds like she is going to do very well at Colorado.

What was surprising is that her Senior year she won every event she entered until the State 3200 final where she came in 3rd. She also won the 800 and 1600 at State but was well back of the leaders in the 3200.

1600, 800, 3200 is a brutal triple at the Indiana state meet. Massive props.

You can’t necessarily draw a straight line from a fast time in the mile to XC. That she also ran a 2:04 makes me think that she has too many fast-twitch muscles to be competitive at college XC.

well yes and no. Julie Heymach and Anna Camp for example. Of course they were not 2:04 in hs. But in college comparable 800 and mile times.

If it's too good to be true, it generally is.

What gets me every time is the utter credulousness when something like this happens, when a runner suddenly runs a record time "out of no where", to borrow the screen name of the person who started this thread. It says it all. Although I have to say that this one even went under my radar; I factored in the runners age and figured it was a draft assisted time trial time given how it was set up. Plus no one wants to believe that this could occur at the high school level. But all the other sordid and disturbing details and revelations aside, when you realize who this athlete was being coached by and their shady history at places like OTC, it was a major red flag. This is a sport with a magic pill that promises to make all the athlete's dreams come true. Having the athlete coached by people who have doped in their own career and used PEDs to obtain their own goals will inevitably lead to corruption.

⬆️ Agree! Smashing a mile record of this level by 7 seconds is not normal. That’s nearly 2 seconds per lap. What would we have though if Webb ran 3:48 when he broke Ryun’s record?!? This entire situation is so shady and disgusting. Good chance Lauren used PEDs. Both have stuck by Nick’s side solely to protect their names and to hide their use of PEDs. If Nick goes down, he’s taking everyone with him. Lauren and “said athlete” have their careers/credibility on the line if it comes out they doped.
