What Koko said. I ride to work every day. It doesn’t seem like a huge savings since it’s only 5 miles each way. But it adds up. so I only need to fill up once a month at the most. But lately it’s a shock when I have to.
What privilege you both have. Some of us don’t live in areas that are safe to bike in.
If you lived on Martha's Vineyard and you do Ironman's, I don't think gas prices can be a problem for you since you are wealthy.
I lifeguarded and rented a house with 6 other lifeguards and had a shared room. I was paying $500/month in rent (couldn’t do this in todays market). I made a lot more money when I was doing Ironmans. Haven’t done one in 5 years.
$6.00? That's a whole different ball game. That would completely ruin my summer plans 🙁
What kind of summer plans do you have that would be ruined by $6.00 of gas?
I actually calculated it for my summer trip and it's about $166 for every one dollar the price goes up. So yes, it's more but not enough to ruin anything.
If I link you my Venmo, will you send me $166? You libs are are so wealthy you shouldn’t miss it.
Just work harder. Get a better job. Get rid of cable TV. Take responsibility!
That's what right-wingers tell poorer people when they complain rent has increased above what they can pay, or point out it's impossible to live on minimum wage, or when thirty-somethings are living with their parents because houses are unaffordable, or when students have a lost decade of earnings because college loans are too big.
You tell them all to quit whining and start working. If you can't afford gas you should have thought about that before you went and bought the car!
I know the right wingers on here will have the vein in their forehead pop when they hear this, but ever think of biking for your shorter, more inconsequential trips? I'm saving a lot of money doing this. Instead of taking a gas guzzler everywhere and then going home devastated when gas prices inevitably violently rise from time to time, maybe compromise and get a bike. I promise it's not something the libs will snicker at you for doing.
Not everyone’s shorter trips are biking distance. And don’t call me lazy; I’m on a forum dedicated to distance running. For most people in America, your solution isn’t practical.
Yes, but longer term it's a good thing and something people should be thinking about or considering. Currently, most cities are very bike un-friendly, but hopefully more expensive gas will force necessary changes, or make them happen much quicker. Same thing with public transportation. Currently it's painful, but we're paying the price for such poor city planning and building a society nearly completely dependent on cars.
On one hand, it's painful, or at least a shock to the system, to have to pay so much more than we're used to at the pump. And it's not just gas. I can't get out of the grocery store without paying about $100 for half a cart of groceries for the week when I used to pay $60-$70 for the equivalent. But, on the other hand, I like it because it's forcing people to reconsider transportation - buy hybrids, electric, or more fuel efficient cars. Start biking places whenever possible (and electric/battery powered or assisted bikes can certainly help). Consider public transportation. Get involved in local politics and make your voice be heard for better bike infrastructure and better public transportation.
And forcing ourselves to be less dependent on foreign oil is a good thing as well.

I don't have Venmo and I am not even close to being wealthy.
I know that the gas prices are a huge problem for the poorer populations especially the uber and lyft drivers BUT if you have a little more money than that, it's not the end of the world.

OK, you guys have confirmed the market has been distorted and that prices are intentionally high in an effort by lefties to control people's behavior.
Katie Porter (D-California) presented a bill to curb energy companies gouging the public by raising gas prices while enjoying record profits.
The GOP voted it down.
She didn't present a bill to open up the pipeline, though, did she? Nor any other legislations aimed at increasing production. She only presented a bill which would force oil companies to sell at a loss and which she knew couldn't pass
That's if you consider OPEC, oil companies, and Russia to be lefties, sure.
The US could increase oil production significantly if the Biden administration wanted to. That’s a fact.
That’s not a fact. There would be a tremendous cost to increase domestic oil production enough to have a significant, long term effect on US gas prices.
One of the contributing factors to rising gas prices before Russian sanctions was a lack of workforce for truck drivers to transport fuel as demand came back.
Now a large global supply has been shut off and you can’t turn a new faucet on with the flip of a switch. What if a large investment was made assuming a decade to recover costs and the supply and demand shifts back in a year? You lose all that money.
If you’re going to make a large investment in transportation energy, you put it in EVs and charging stations that wouldn’t rely on Russian or Saudi supplies affecting the global market.
In the meantime, the OP will have to suck it up and deal with the $300 of additional summer expenses.

Wow! "Just drive less" why didn't I think of that?? Thank god we have liberal geniuses like you to enlighten us.
Funny how the people who voted for the administration who's refusing to increase domestic increase gas supply during a worldwide shortage in the name of "stopping global warming" are patronizing us with stupid solutions to problems they're partially responsible for.

I have seen my mother and friends less because it literally costs $40 to visit my mother and I’m not exactly loaded. I’ve done Ironmans and...
Wowwowwow! You've done Ironmans and you're NOT loaded?
Lol. The entry fee for an Ironman is almost $1000. The all in cost for the weekend is at least 3-4k if you have to travel. Bikes start at 5k for the least acceptable ones.
This thread is funny. Everyone here pretends to be rich until you ask them if they got stimulus checks or if gas prices are a real problem for them.

Nice! A single entry fee is enough gas money for 25 briswiss visits to see mom ❤️.

There is no magical pipeline that just needs to be opened.
There are 271 more oil rigs operating in the US now than there were last June.
The Investor Relations website contains information about Baker Hughes Rig Count's business for stockholders, potential investors, and financial analysts.
Refining capacity is the real issue though. Its not there to meet this level of demand and refineries take years to build and no oil company is going to build one since they cost billions and by the time it would be built, demand will be back down.
The US could increase oil production significantly if the Biden administration wanted to. That’s a fact.
How? Nationalize the oil industry, remove the profit component, and sell at a loss like Venezuela?
The opposite. Remove legislative/bureaucratic red tape that prevents oil companies from drilling - i.e. STOP FREEZING DRILLING LEASES. Really difficult to understand, isn't it?
