Overhydration: Pounding multiple bottles of water before the marathon has even started and continuing to guzzle water your whole 5 hours on the course, even when you're not thirsty. Then you have a seizure and die from brain swelling because you diluted your sodium down to a fatal level.
Under-hydration: "Tough guy" coach refuses to let 300 lb padded football players drink anything during double day practices in the South, during a heat wave, to "build character." Then a kid dies from heat stroke which could have been prevented with sensible hydration.
Proper hydration: Having plenty of liquids and electrolytes available so you can drink when you're thirsty, but not more. Your body knows how much fluids you need. Listen to it.

This has been bothering me for a while. As someone said, drinking water has become a fetish, especially with females. People can't go anywhere without carrying water with them, as if they were packing out into the wilderness. I don't see the harm, but WTF?
I go on two-hour trail runs and don't have a sip of water. Zero. I'm fine. I get back to the car and drink some water. It's all good. In fact, cold water after a long trail run is absolutely fantastic. But women in my neighborhood can't go on a 15 minute walk around the block without their damn water bottle. Take two steps, then a little sip. WTF?
And the constant advice from anyone and everyone to drink massive volumes water. And the paranoia about being "dehydrated". OMG!!!!! What about.....just drink when you are thirsty? I get thirsty, then I drink some water. Why has this worked for me for my whole life? Am I part camel? Am I genetically different from the rest of society? I don't think so.
I think Dr Noakes had gone off the rails lately. Waterlogged is a waste of money, it has information that could easily be written in a magazine article. Also, the Lore of Nutrition is bizarre, it’s basically his attack on the South African nutrition establishment.
Yep, it is out of hand. Drink when thirsty is good enough.
notice all the stress fractures especially in HS girls, there may be a link to fluoridated water and weakens appendicular bones(arms and legs), these kids carry water bottles all day in school, too much flouride, from too much water.
Isn't that more likely to be linked to soda? I.e. the phosphoric acid, phosphorous competes with Mg... I know even drinking two or three a week is meant to be linked to a lower bone density which is frightening. YO.

No, it's because people don't eat enough meat. Eat steak.
Are the water companies and sports beverages industries over doing it?
pushing people to hydrate but overdoing it?
I don’t remember people walking around with water all the time?
$ vs health
hyponeutremia is a serious problem I’m sure people have seen the news stories
i want to read Noakes book waterlogged.
Yes they did and NO it's not.
I seriously doubt anyone (excluding freak exceptions) is actually suffering from "over-hydration" in a medical sense. You just piss more.
It's just one more little brick added to the fragile mentality of our culture. I'll immediately die if I don't have my phone, my water bottle, my walking helmet, my mask, another mask, a face shield, gloves, a mask up by butt, my service pet with me at all times, my mommy, etc.

I carry an insulated Gatorade water bottle with me most places I go. I like to fill it up with tap water from my apartment with some ice so that when I go places I can drink water when I'm thirsty. I carry a bottle so that I can drink water when I get thirsty. Cold water is a nice treat when it's 90-100 degrees outside every day during the Summer.

Everyone come pat this guy on the back, he's a real man because he doesn't drink water and his pee is yellow! Everyone come tell this guy what a real man he is! Congratulations The Real Real! You're a REAL man!
Wow, just when you thought Boomers had run out of "things that were better in our day", a thread decrying water consumption appears.
Once again, someone who frequently scolds and tsk-tsks about tolerance and acceptance - and is always quick to throw out accusations of transphobia and bigotry - can't resist a chance to display blatant ageism. So much for "diversity and inclusion," eh?
