Jakob would win the US steeple easily with no training, he has great natural technique and is considerably faster than any US steepler over the flat 3k. He ran 8:26 and qualified for WCs when he was 16, he could go out and run 8 flat tomorrow, 8:05 at absolute worst.
I agree. Forget US champion, I think he could contend for a world title at the steeple.
Now that would be surprising. He would need to be good over the barriers. He has somewhat similar times in the flat as Shaheen but I would be surprised if he could run much under 8.

He was very good over the barriers at 16, he barely breaks stride coming over the water jump. He's taller and much faster now, in a well-paced race he would have no problem going under 8.
Absolutely. Especially the way the US champs are typically ran. It’ll be a 3:50 jog, 14:00 jog, and we already saw the 10,000. He’d be fresh for the steeple even with rounds
No way. The 1500M final is at 1:52pm on Saturday and the 3,000M steeple final is at 2:04pm. He would have 7 minutes in between races. Hocker/Teare are too good for him to just jog an easy win and then run sub 8:20 5 minutes later.
He wins the 10,000, 1,500, and then comes back the next day and wins the 5,000. But I am a doubter in his ability to complete the 1500/3,000 steeple double with 5 minutes rest.
Steeple is another ball game. But I think he'd win it if the prize purse was 10 million and he had 6 months to train for it.
Lol no the steeple is Jakob’s strongest event, a 16yo Jakob ran 8:26 and qualified for world championships on his first try when his 1500 pr was only 3:39. The guy is built for the steeple, the 1500 is just more prestigious to him, he even said it in an interview in 2017 when he was asked whether he would continue to run some steeple races after becoming european u20 champion. I really think he could win it tomorrow if he wanted, especially since US steeple is really weak without Evan Jager.
jakob is a 1500/5000 guy so conceding the 10k to him seems a little optimistic given fisher is number 7 all time at the distance. the 800 is even more of a stretch. especially if someone like brazier finds his 2019 form (this would be a pointless discussion) or even murphy finding his 2021 trials form.
He lost to Joe Klecker in a 24laps jog 1 lap sprint race, I think Jakob could sprint a lap way faster than those guys, and that would not even take much out of him.

Jakob is Olympic champ pushing a 3:28 un-paced. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the 1500 is his best event. Until he actually runs a sub ~7:55 Steeple and wins OG, I'm going with results.
To answer OP, I think JI could win all but the 800. The US have several guys that will be 143 shape come trials, and that might be just 1.5s too fast for JI.
He was good at 16 in his country in Steeple Chase.
People are training for years in this distance.
He is not going to win Al Bakkali tomorrow unless he train at least for one year.
I remember Aouita in the 80s broke his perfect wins series because he was too much arrogant to think he was going to win the distance in the final Mediterranean Games.

He is not going to “win Al Bakkali”? Is that some big meet I don’t know about? En français est-ce que tu dirais « il ne va pas gagner Al Bakkali demain » ou est-ce que tu dirais peut-être « battre » ou « vaincre »? Quand t’es tellement nul en anglais, il vaut mieux trainer aux forums francophones mon ami.
He could win at the 1500/5000 but that’s not too surprising or unusual. The 800? No don’t think so. The 10,000 if Fisher lets it be a sprint yes. If Fisher goes from 5 laps to go I’d favor Fisher.
