blurrypedestrian: welcome to the thread. Very impressive times for a new runner in his mid-30s! Stay healthy, race well, and keep reporting your progress.
RunnerSam: Congrats to you and your wife!
Average: Total miles for Wednesday workout is a typo? Should be 19.7 miles? Heckuva a workout -- sure looks like you could crush all of your PRs right now!
OR: Good call to skip the race. Conditions were miserable, and nothing, really, to be gained. Hope you can schedule some racing soon, though.
notarobot: Well, that's pretty awful. How long does it take for a broken toe to heal? In time to salvage the track season, I hope. RE: 400 repeats, ah yes, as I suspected. I've raced the 1-mile a few times over the years, but haven't trained specifically for it since high school -- toughest workout was 12 x 440y @ 68, 1-minute recoveries. Dunno how effective that was, as I didn't even break 4:50 until post-season.
th3bt: Your fitness isn't far from sub-37 right now, based on the 1000m repeats. Not on the mountain 10K, though. Sounds brutal!
drcrusher: Good to see you easing back into it. RE: pre-race troubles, yeah, not fun, but it definitely got my adrenaline flowing!
K Dot: Nice week. Two weeks to the 10-mile race! I think you could be eyeing a sub-3 in Oct or Nov if you're so inclined.
THOUGHTLEADER: Maybe your marathon rescheduling was a blessing -- things seem to falling into place nicely. Your race is a week before mine, and I'm expecting to be inspired by your results!
Carly: Your lowest-mileage week equals my highest-mileage week. Ha! A bit disappointing 5000m result, but you outlined the impacting factors very well. Any more track races lined up? 5000m on the track has always been difficult for me. I raced it only once in college -- I tried staying with the leaders, going through 1-mile at 5:04, then died horribly and barely broke 17. In my 40s I attempted it a couple times, trying to break 17 as an "old man", and failed. The only 5K track race I was happy with was at age 16 -- just a low-key summer track club race. Don't recall my time.
thebritish: Your upcoming 5K is on my marathon day. I'm predicting 17s for you. Maybe 17:15? (I'm noting that 5:05 mile back in January)
Sub-6: Good luck this weekend!
HHH: Fantastic long run. You gotta be feeling confident! Stay healthy.
