Last year, she opened at 2:01.07 in January and never ran over 2:00 the rest of the year except for in the first round of SECs, USA and the Olympics. Does anyone know the splits? Or the weather conditions? DarkSky is showing big winds but the reality is the #2-3-4 performers all ran at least as seaonsal best today 1. Athing Mu Nike 2:02.07 2. . Aaliyah Miller Baylor 2:05.55 4 SR 3 Michaela Lewis Texas Tech 2:05.61 SO 4 Honour Finley Kansas 2:08.07 4 SR 5 Avryl Johnson Kansas 2:09.57 4 J Miller was the 2011 NCAA indoor champ. She has as 2:00.69 pb but today's time was her best time in 2022. This also was a seasonal best for Lewis (she too has a faster pb from last year - 2:03.69) It was a lifetime pb for the 4th placer.

The only female to win 2 Olympic 800m golds in a row is Caster and she had a (internal) "pair" of advantages....The odds are against Mu.

After 2021, Mu has earned the benefit of the doubt. Outside of Rudisha, she’s probably the most talented pure 800 runner in history. There is nothing in her history to suggest she’s not sufficiently committed to the sport, or unable to hold up under pressure or expectation. People can lose their minds all they want if she doesn’t beat Rogers, Wilson and Hodgkinson when it counts, but until then, it’s foolish to make too much of a disappointing 3 sec WIN or to fuss over a relay split that’s 0.75 seconds “too slow.”

A month ago Athing Mu ran a 600 in 1:24. Another women who Mu trains with at Texas A&M, Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete, was in that same race and ran 4 seconds slower, 1:28.

Last week Wilson-Perteete ran an 800 in 2:03. Mu has got to still be at least 4 seconds faster than Wilson-Perteete. That would put Mu at 1:59 in an 800.

And it wouldn't surprise me that since Mu is 4 seconds faster at 600 then she would be 5 seconds faster at 800, so that would put Mu at 1:58.

How many woman in the world right now can run a 1:58? Not many.

Mu will be fine.

This is what I want to know as well. WTF is all this about beach and frolic? Mu is still going to school at A&M, training there, and I believe she is also a volunteer assistant coach. From her social media, she is traveling to meets every weekend.

Mu went on a beach vacation in August, right before her fall semester started. I'm not aware of any other "beach and frolic" trips besides that one. Everyone is entitled to go to the beach once in a while.

Mu recently ran a 400 split in 50.26. That doesn't sound like someone who is taking it easy in practice.

Some people here can't understand why Mu, on a very windy day with no real competition, didn't go all out in a meaningless early season 800. They seem to think that her 2:02 somehow accurately represents what kind of shape she is currently in, which is not the case.

Mu's next race will be a 600 at the Penn Relays in a few days. How fast will she have to run to convince the "she only ran a 2:02" people that she is in good shape right now?

Disrespectful to say the least. Mu is the Olympic champion and US record holder and probably the fastest non doped, non DSD woman of all time. Kessler is just a kid trying to show he made the right call turning pro. They are literally in different competitive universes now, and maybe forever.

She also had covid in Feb, I believe, so she's recovered nicely.
