I don’t think Musk is doing this just for financial gain. You can’t quickly sell 10% of a multibillion public company without the price going down, especially since much of the recent rise was the news that Musk bought his stake in the company.

Richard Spencer and Louis Farrakhan are still on Twitter. But the New York Post got banned for the Hunter Biden laptop story which is 100% true.
It doesn't "typically" censor views it dislikes politically it's almost exclusively does so.

The board can neither approve nor reject the offer. The board can probably put it to a shareholder vote, also, that’s not really much of a premium considering it was trading much higher a few months ago and there’s probably going to be a ton of revenue to be made in the next election cycle. If I had shares I’d 100% vote to reject the offer.

It is nowhere near as noble as that. The problem has always been the dissemination of purposeful fabrications without any attempt to have a logical debate. A large percentage of users simply accept the fabrications as fact. In many instances that is way more dangerous than censoring.
If Musk tweeted that you have a child trafficking ring in your basement with your address, you are in immediate danger.

The plan is to allow Twitter to become Truth Social II. Meaning, Trump and Qanon, and the insurrections will have a platform to use to overthrow the government. In return, Trump lover, Musk, who has already meet with Trump about "freeing" social media, has agreed to accept something Trump has offered him if Trump is able to overthrow the U.S. government.

Not a billion in profits. Short-term gains are taxed as regular income. In Musk's case he pays taxes on his maximum tax rate. Which seems to be very high.
